Got a dog that hates the fireworks?

http://www.thundershirt.com/

I kept reading good things about them so picked up one last week for my best friend and it really does seem to be helping her. She is terrified when bad weather kicks-in (thunder/lightening) and even worse at this time of the year (bastard fireworks) and this definitely seems to have calmed her.

Why this idiotic "celebration" in the UK isn't banned by now is beyond me.

Fireworks have been on sale to the general public for weeks now. The amount of pets injured or killed every year during this time is ridiculous. My dog died on Nov 5th a few years ago. I've hated "Guy Fawkes night" ever since.

Public displays are fine. Selling the fucking things to the public ? No thanks.

Ban it now !!

I`m with you mate. I fucking hate fireworks and would happily ban them to the general public (council/authority run displays I can swallow).

Well, I don't have that kind of dog, since I have hunting dog that has been accustomed to shooting, etc. But that thundershirt seems a tad silly, "constant pressure"? Like dog wearing a fit neoprene vest (hunting dogs have those)? Soothing in my ass, if it does something, it is that the dog doesn't feel so bully if its moving is constrained.

My old dog Sully (1991 - 2007) used to absolutely hate fireworks, loud thunderstorms too. He' slink off and hide behind the furnace down the basement.

Funny thing is if I got out his leash and walked him outside to the park while the firworks were going off he'd magically be about 90% less skittish during the booms.

Your dog was a decent age.
Mine goes into schizo mode with any bangs and tries to get behind furniture that isn`t meant to be moved (she seems a little better over the past week). The amount of things that she has broken over the past couple of years...

my dog will chase off deer or fox. not afraid of horses, donkeys or cows. will kill rabbits, birds and even skunk without even breaking stride, not shy of guns going off in the least but 1 or 2 bangs of a fire cracker goes off and she is spooked for hours. I don't get it.
