A mountain of dead dogs was discovered in an illegal dog-leather tanning factory today in the northeastern province of Sakon Nakhon in a raid by police and an animal rights organization.

Inside Watchdog Thailand and police found 88 dead dogs about to be sliced into strips. Some of them had their mouths covered to prevent them from barking as they were slaughtered. Authorities also found 35 large bags of dog meat and 95 strips of dog leather.

The dead dogs and dissected meat weighed upward of 1,170 kilograms.

Factory workers fled as police approached, and only four people were arrested including owner Somboon Tongkup and his wife, Chamnien Dangleela, along with two other people identified as Thawatchai Pilata and Tongsai Pilata.

The dead dogs were bought from the infamous dogmeat trucks, a type of mobile slaughterhouse where the driver captures stray dogs and kills them before offering the corpses to factories.

The trucks patrol through residential areas where the driver traditionally offers a plastic bucket to a local for every dog handed in.

Not a country per se... I'd say its how you would just a person. Someone who is kind to animals is most probably a good person. Someone who dismisses animal suffering on the other hand is not.

I dont understand the outrage. Most people eat chicken, porn and beef, do you think pigs chickens or cows are treated well? They're skinned and pulled apart alive screaming just like these dogs were.
Why is it sad for dogs but no one cares when its done to chickens or pigs or cows?

In regards to the story, yea, I think it's for their skin. But for food, it depends on where you are. North East Thailand loves black dog, any black dog, as they think it's lucky and healthy for them, even though it's illegal. Vietnam and China seems to eat any old dog. In the case of China, they eat pretty much everything that moves, out of desperation and not having enough food to feed everyone.

Dogs are domesticated and part of our daily lives. We connect with them on an unspoken level. They're more useful alive in many ways than skinned and turned into a purse.

Only thing people that really care can do is donate, help on your own, if you hear of bullshit going on TELL SOMEONE, report them, speak up. Etc. There had to have been TONS of people who knew about this dog torturning facility and people just thought it's too much trouble, or they are too lazy to speak up or report it for a long time. (finally I guess somebody did, thanks to them!)

The worst thing to see also is how disgusting our human race is, when there are hog roasts, and people pose next to a big hog that has a stick stuck through his body and has been roasted. People love taking pics like that

We know this kind of shit is going to happen in the world...but can the perpetrators at least have the decency to kill the dogs quickly before skinning them? Wouldn't it be just as easy to put a spike through the head instead of muzzling?

I am a hypocrite on this subject - I know that - Some people are raised to think of pets in a different way to other animals though...

I also think that over the 1000's of years we have kept dogs we have developed an instinctive bond with them - It seems some have it and some don't.....
