Here, we'd have been lucky to charge someone $600 for the same project.

Smart move. I don't do any freelance anymore, but in the off chance I do decide to pick something up, no way in hell would I work with anyone from adult.

Typical adult people think it should only take a week to create a facebook clone and only want to pay $100 for it because some indian on freelance.com said he'd do it for that.

I always heard people quote mainstream prices for websites well above $5000. I thought they were totally crazy and ripping off the client.

Last year I did 3 mainstream projects. I will never, ever do it again. The $5000 quotes you hear about are low.

Valuer your time and your skills, nobody else will. Charge accordingly.

Bingo.

Funny story, I had an old client who knows what I do now for a living actually hit me up on ICQ offering $300 for my "script" because they were looking for something similar and thought my company's website was just a demo of that "script" and he didn't realize that it was a company doing 6 figures a month in revenue with 16 staff members.

Sometimes adult people are so out of touch with the outside world it blows my mind.

Any chance you could pass customers like that my way? Hefty commission for you and safeguards for you in case you are afraid to ruin reputation.

I don't know, you keep taking pot shots at me. Luckily I don't take that stuff personally. :winkwink:

I have a guy that needs a job done right now. Show me your work and show me some references and I'll consider it.

I say, 90% freelancers waste your time :321GFY

It's because everyone thinks they can so something they have no drive to do. Those people won't last long.

Let me name a few who never let me down on GFY:

- Yuu from Studios Porno (quality design service for a very decent price, good guy to work with)

- Vlad (worked with him on LoveAmateurs.com, expensive service, but totally worth the money you pay)

- Definitively Marco from Sliiing (great and hard working guy who will always do everything to suit clients needs).

Respect to them :thumbsup

Thanks for the nice words man! Much appreciated :)

I do my best to never let clients down and i have never let one down so far in 7+ years of coding. As far as prices go, i don't think i charge expensive, nor cheap though, i consider my prices as being competitive and i always try to work out the prices with the client as well.

I'm freelancing. I do believe in communication. I even got clients who paid me for job and then I had to hunt them down to show them results.

I think you should stop looking in New Delhi/Karachi regions, those guys often get lost in the ether and you can't get in touch with them... well, there are always exceptions though.

Sid70 10-10-2014 05:52 AM

Stick to "your" guy. Hope it does not sound ghey.

Mikex 10-10-2014 06:25 AM

Finding a good freelancer can be tricky. Many clients search for cheap solutions and they want to save money that way. From my experience and from experience of our clients who used to have freelancers mostly from Asia, I know that development can coast you much more in the future cause of many reasons.

Developer leaves in the middle of project, then he is back, you think now is ok, he is back now we will get this done... After a while he is gone again and so on. Few months has passed, project is not finished yet, you delaying with start and you are loosing your money.

Also we had many situations taking project from client who had dozens of cheap freelancers working on a project. Code is horrible! Fixing that can cost a lot of money.

Our company is doing outsourcing, with all developers working in-house, our office. We are having a client managers, project managers. Communication with client, supervision of a developer, taking care of everything client is asking are some of the most important things in this job. Of course having reliable developer is maybe more important than having highly skilled developer working for some client. Hiring of new developer is complicated process if you want to have reliability, skills, experience and professionalism, but that's the way to be a successful.

Basically we are trying to remove those bad things in relationship client - developer, getting communication in higher level, taking care of a deadlines all of that for some reasonable prices.

I think the whole problem is in the *cheap* part when you look for freelancers...

The difference between Vlad and many other adult coders is the quality of the end product. You will have a professional, clean, easy to use system that looks like it could be rolled out as a consumer grade software you could resell. He's not the most expensive, not the cheapest, not the fastest. But... when it comes to QUALITY, that is what you're going to get compared to many others. It will not be a rush job full of errors.

It's not to say others can't program well, but they will be messy and unprofessional looking on delivery. Many will tell you to go get a CSS or something if you want a clean nice functional system. Where as Vlad gives you this by default. Organized, easy to use, clean.

Additionally, I have never had the number of bugs on any Vlad script I have had from other developers. Perhaps it's his OCD or attention to detail, I do not know. But I will say that despite taking longer than I like, I have been very happy with every project Vlad has worked on for me whether large or small over the years.

:2 cents:

If I pitch this:
"I have some links to sell, only top notch sites on 1st position in google, hand written content, very few links, super deal - only 5$ for 10 years!"

You'll never fall for that crap would you, now why then it makes sense when it's not links but freelancers?

I would not fall, its way too cheap lol... and why would you sell links if you already #1 on G anyway.. would make sense to sell sites... sorry, bit off topic. But I'm always weary of something that looks too good to be true - like "will code for internet" or "will write you script for 10$" - damn, thats 1$/h - who would do that???

But yeah, its freelancers

I'm guessing you own this now and are redirecting it to your lovehomeporn site?

Not sure who is to blame, but I think it's kind of shitty that the loveamateurscash affiliates were never informed of the change, that their links would be redirected to the new site, and their CCBill ID substituted for 2492908 in the process. :disgust

I have had that happen with coders. They get to a point where they think they call the shots, or, they take on too many clients and you get farmed out to some retard. The best thing with these types is to sever ties at the first sign of bullshit.

That is EXACTLY right -- get the FUCK out at the FIRST sign of bullshit. You'll regret it if you don't.

People often think about firing an employee, but they rarely think about firing a client. Brad Gosse once explained the full value of firing the bottom 10-15% of your clients each year. It was terrific advice. Obviously it should be done the right way, with notice and no hard feelings etc.. but saying 'hey you need to find someone else' is just as valid and useful as saying 'sorry, this isn't working out and you need to work somewhere else.'

@Sly - The 5K mainstream website thing is definitely low if you charge more than $10 an hour for meetings... ;)

Sounds like he's studied Dan Kennedy.

I've had the same problems with programers and designers
