Typical adult people think it should only take a week to create a facebook clone and only want to pay $100 for it because some indian on freelance.com said he'd do it for that. |
I always heard people quote mainstream prices for websites well above $5000. I thought they were totally crazy and ripping off the client.
Last year I did 3 mainstream projects. I will never, ever do it again. The $5000 quotes you hear about are low. Valuer your time and your skills, nobody else will. Charge accordingly. |

Funny story, I had an old client who knows what I do now for a living actually hit me up on ICQ offering $300 for my "script" because they were looking for something similar and thought my company's website was just a demo of that "script" and he didn't realize that it was a company doing 6 figures a month in revenue with 16 staff members. Sometimes adult people are so out of touch with the outside world it blows my mind. |

I do my best to never let clients down and i have never let one down so far in 7+ years of coding. As far as prices go, i don't think i charge expensive, nor cheap though, i consider my prices as being competitive and i always try to work out the prices with the client as well. |

I think you should stop looking in New Delhi/Karachi regions, those guys often get lost in the ether and you can't get in touch with them... well, there are always exceptions though. |
Stick to "your" guy. Hope it does not sound ghey.

Finding a good freelancer can be tricky. Many clients search for cheap solutions and they want to save money that way. From my experience and from experience of our clients who used to have freelancers mostly from Asia, I know that development can coast you much more in the future cause of many reasons.
Developer leaves in the middle of project, then he is back, you think now is ok, he is back now we will get this done... After a while he is gone again and so on. Few months has passed, project is not finished yet, you delaying with start and you are loosing your money. Also we had many situations taking project from client who had dozens of cheap freelancers working on a project. Code is horrible! Fixing that can cost a lot of money. Our company is doing outsourcing, with all developers working in-house, our office. We are having a client managers, project managers. Communication with client, supervision of a developer, taking care of everything client is asking are some of the most important things in this job. Of course having reliable developer is maybe more important than having highly skilled developer working for some client. Hiring of new developer is complicated process if you want to have reliability, skills, experience and professionalism, but that's the way to be a successful. Basically we are trying to remove those bad things in relationship client - developer, getting communication in higher level, taking care of a deadlines all of that for some reasonable prices. |
I think the whole problem is in the *cheap* part when you look for freelancers...

It's not to say others can't program well, but they will be messy and unprofessional looking on delivery. Many will tell you to go get a CSS or something if you want a clean nice functional system. Where as Vlad gives you this by default. Organized, easy to use, clean. Additionally, I have never had the number of bugs on any Vlad script I have had from other developers. Perhaps it's his OCD or attention to detail, I do not know. But I will say that despite taking longer than I like, I have been very happy with every project Vlad has worked on for me whether large or small over the years. :2 cents: |

"I have some links to sell, only top notch sites on 1st position in google, hand written content, very few links, super deal - only 5$ for 10 years!" You'll never fall for that crap would you, now why then it makes sense when it's not links but freelancers? |

But yeah, its freelancers |

Not sure who is to blame, but I think it's kind of shitty that the loveamateurscash affiliates were never informed of the change, that their links would be redirected to the new site, and their CCBill ID substituted for 2492908 in the process. :disgust |

People often think about firing an employee, but they rarely think about firing a client. Brad Gosse once explained the full value of firing the bottom 10-15% of your clients each year. It was terrific advice. Obviously it should be done the right way, with notice and no hard feelings etc.. but saying 'hey you need to find someone else' is just as valid and useful as saying 'sorry, this isn't working out and you need to work somewhere else.'
@Sly - The 5K mainstream website thing is definitely low if you charge more than $10 an hour for meetings... ;) |
