I am a little more on the high tech viable transportation side of bikes. ;) Does 30mph on a flat (for now) and has a 60 to 80 mile range. I've got 5700 miles on it so far. I'll reply to this thread when I get the rear fenders finished. Everything on the carrier is now down by the rear axle. Made sort of a sheet metal pannier. Have to finish the outer covers yet. Motor is capable of 55mph + easily. Waiting on a new controller. Has blue tooth to my tablet showing Gps speed, Voltage, Amperage, watt hours used, watt hours per mile, Temp for two temp sensors.. just a ton of stuff.
The plan for early next summer is a East coast, to West coast, then to Pittsburgh to visit family and wrap up the trip. The current route will take me from the East coast, down to the Gulf, along the Mexican border, then on to Venice beach, then to Denver and then off to Pittsburgh. If I feel good enough, and have enough time, I'll finish up heading up to Niagara to the Canadian border. Guy from an ebike forums I'm on just broke the Guinness world record by doing 4300 + miles a month or so ago. Took him 29 days and he did 200+ miles most of the days. My trip, if it goes to plan, will beat that pretty handily. I'm trying to find a charity and do it as a pledge type thing so I'm doing some good while breaking the record. Very early in planning stages right now, so nothing is carved in stone yet, but that currently is the plan.
Builds shown here look great. Biking needs to be a more viable form of transportation, for both short and long range needs. Those 5700 some miles only cost around 8.00 in electric to charge. I figure with the way battery tech is increasing I'll have an easy 175 to 200 mile range in the same space I use now for the batteries. There are 24 bricks of 4s lipo on board. Bike in total with the new rear fenders is around 110 to 115 pounds. Easy to pick it up over a guard rail or a stream if needed.
We need more bike lanes and to encourage biking and ebiking over gas vehicles.
