You Know It's 2014 Right?

What I just told the chick after I placed my Pizza order and she said "Cash Only" Place isn't that great anyway so alternate just showed up from a place I haven't tried before which upon first viewing looks better anyway. Off to kill it with some NetFlix.

I'd have asked why cash only - just to hear their excuse.

The produce outlet: our margin is so slim anyway, we can't afford it
The bakery: we might go back to taking cc's if we start to lose business
The hipster foodie burger joint: taking cc's was taking $ out of our pockets
The pizza delivery place: when we can't swipe the card, it costs us too much to process the cc plus chargebacks

it seems to be a micro-trend w/ small biz around here

Could see if I lived in farmland but I'm in Chicago and when I can plug a PayPal reader into an iPhone and swipe into my PayPal business account think a business can find a way to take a card as well. Think you would rather have orders pre-paid instead of having your delivery guy fumbling with cash after Midnight. Old school place that's not the greatest but open late as hell and I've always picked up or had cash on me. Called an alternate that could take a card as didn't feel like going out and Pizza was better so by them not taking a card and making me look for an alternate led to me to a new source so first place lost my future business since the pie was better at the second place.

I always carry ''petty cash'' for these situations. As long as the bill is less than $40 and non-business or tax-deductible expenses it's not a big deal.

Paper receipts for cash outlays that are deductible or reimbursable are a major pain in the ass. Taxi fares go on credit/debit card -- the drivers' tips can be in cash -- they like that ;) so they just pocket the money :P

I remember back in 2007 I went to Indiana for goodgirl's birthday. I had volunteered to pay for a party so all her relatives could come; it was decided that we would go to the best pizza place in the town.

Next door to the pizza place was a cake/ice cream shop that I had ordered the birthday cake from. I excused myself from the party and walked next door to get the cake. As I was walking back in to the pizza place I saw the sign, "Cash Only." Fortunately, pizza isn't too expensive.

Apparently it was mafia owned and cash was all they accepted from day one.

I got an old Italian buddy like that and he owns a strip club, met him when I was an auto mechanic like 20 years ago as he use to bring his old Cadillac to me to work on at my shop, he takes cards though and sends free shots at the club when he sees me which usually makes the girls go a little overboard in the back but it's a rare occurrence these days for me to go anymore, can't hang like the old days.

If ya ever roll to Chicago good handful of places but http://edwardosonhalsted.com/ would be one of my favorites. Usually do thin crust sausage/mushroom or sausage/jalepeno

The "cash only" sign should say "we inconvenience you scummy customers because we blatantly cheat on our taxes".

The money lost from turned off customers would be more of a loss than some credit card processing fees. I know that I've walked out of a couple of places because they said they don't take cards.

If you could get away without paying 8% processing.... Would't you do it too?

BTW... I am here at the Dating Factory offices in England and I just chatted to with the customer service department... And they tell me that people still send in cash.

I think honestly if you look at the way card associations treat merchants especially with card-not-present transactions it doesn't surprise me at all.

If I thought I could afford to tell them to go to hell I certainly would. I am very happy to hear of this and hope it becomes a growing trend. Card associations are so busy kissing consumer's asses and billing it all to the merchants I think it's past time for some backlash, hope it grows.

Repeated Violations at Chinese supplier

A company in Suqian, China, called Catcher, making iPhone and iPad parts was found to have a number of serious health and safety, environmental, and human rights violations, as was revealed in a new investigative report. The investigation was conducted in August 2014 and released on 4th September 2014 by the non-profit organizations China Labor Watch (CLW) and Green America. CLW investigated the Catcher Sujian factory in April 2013 and found many of the same violations. At that time, CLW reported its findings to Apple privately, after which Apple committed to reforming some of the problems. The new report demonstrates that in the 16 months, Apple has not made progress with this supplier to improve conditions for its workers. In spite of Apple?s supplier code of conduct and commitments to prevent these violations, more than a year later, they persist. These findings are in violation of Chinese law and Apple?s Supplier Code of Conduct. The factory, which employs 20,000, is not one of Apple?s 18 Final Assembly Plants in China, and therefore is not one of the facilities where Apple has recently committed to a policy to ban the use of benzene and n-hexane in manufacturing. Violations found at Catcher Suqian included the following: ?Significant amounts of aluminum-magnesium alloy shreddings on the floor and dust particles in the air (this dust is both flammable and combustible). Lack of proper ventilation poses a health and fire safety risk ?Inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE) for handling toxic materials, such as metal cutting fluids. Skin is exposed directly to these toxins and there are no ventilator masks ?Locked safety exits. There is no means of rapid egress if there is a fire or explosion. ?Workers have not participated in fire drills in the past year ?A lack of safety training for workers ? Dumping of industrial fluids and waste into groundwater and nearby rivers ?Many student workers (16-18 years old) are employed in the same positions as adults, 10+ hour days ?Excessive hours for all workers, including student interns ?Forced overtime. Workers are not allowed to turn down requests they work overtime An estimated 6 hours of unpaid overtime per worker per month (Roughly $290,000 in owed wages for all employees) ?Hiring discrimination based on age and presence of tattoos ?A grievance process that retaliates against workers for raising valid workplace issues Green America and CLW called on Apple to do what is necessary to ensure that workers making Apple products are treated according to law and Apple?s own social responsibility commitments.

Where I'm at, the county would come in and go over my receipts and give me my bill for sales tax. Sure you could work around that, but it would be too much work and risk for the reward.

Better be some fantasmic pizza with a policy like that. :D

Delivery places near me all have a hand-held gizmo they bring right to the door with your order, you can pay with CC or debit card.

Guess they realized it costs money to accept other forms of payment! I think it's a GREAT trend and we should all be backing it. Leave credit cards for when they're needed, like online porn, dating and such.
