The event, dubbed the Ball-o-Thon, went through despite Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin calling it "shameful" and saying he had hoped he could stop it. "We want to promote a healthy sexuality and healthy self-esteem for women, and we don't want young girls obsessing over a body that is in many cases not accessible. The values promoted by this event go against all of that," Pedneaud-Jobin said in August. But he also acknowledged that if there were no laws against it, the event would go on.
