The real question should be; what would be the ideal time to time travel back to or forward to, if you could only go one way?
The answers are endless, "I want to travel back to when Jesus was born" Well, what could happen there? You go back 2014 years and find out he never existed? He did exist but was a fraud, or, he was right? Then what? Can you travel back to now to tell everyone? Or can you then go forward to see if Mohammed was real and if Islam really is the last prophet?

There's a higher level of safety in going back in time. You know exactly what to expect and can take the necessary clothing and currency with you. The chances of your cover being blown is very low.
The risk in going forward increases with the time span. You can probably pull off 50 years into the future without drawing too much unwanted attention to yourself, but going ahead 1,000 years is going to be extremely dangerous. Everyone is going to know there is something very wrong about you.... your ancient clothing, outdated english, no valid money, etc...
But that problem aside, it would be hugely beneficial to go forward if only for the medical treatments. Go ahead 3,000 years and they can cure your ailments and give you your 20-year-old body back.Comment

Yeah, that knowledge thing is great fantasy, but in reality it wouldn't be that easy. There would be already established power structures and usually people tend to cling to the power. Instead of cheering your wisdom the king or whatever may just behead you as a dangerous rivalry.

You really only need to go forward a month or two. All the sports bets, all stock movement. You'd have to stay within a short time span. Sports bets are pretty easy to multiply fast when you absolutely know the outcome. Do your sports bets the first week. Roll it over into buying whatever stocks have a big increase over the rest of the month. If done right can be set for life in a month or two and it will all look like a run of good luck.

Hawking believes time travel is possible but only in one direction - forward. He supposes a spacecraft that could travel at a speed approaching the speed of light - 12 years to reach 98% light speed, at that point each day on the spacecraft would be one earth year.
Kind of a cheesy kind of time travel - much easier I think for us to figure out how to freeze people and then awaken them in the future. His scenario is some epic disaster that destroys humanity where these time travellers would return to Earth to repopulate it. If I were on that spaceship I'd want no part of that job, starting human civilization from scratch in god knows what kind of environment the planet would be in would be a nightmare.
I still really don't have a handle on the concept of 'time' the way physicists think of it. To me it's man made concept, we decided one revolution of the earth, sunrise to sunrise, is one day/24 hours. That time is slower/faster for different observers doesn't seem like such a major scientific breakthrough to me but when I read about Einstein's theories of relativity it's lauded as an incredible leap forward that we've reaped a ton of technological advancements from.I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting.
