Bran Stark won't be in 'Game of Thrones' season 5

Game of Thrones is losing another Stark ? at least temporarily.

There are no current plans to include Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) and Hodor (Kristian Nairn) in season 5 of the HBO fantasy hit. The rather stunning plot shakeup was first let out of the bag by Nairn during an interview. ?We have a season off and we have a year?s hiatus, solely because I imagine our storyline is up to the end of the books,? he said, then added regarding his DJing career: ?So, I get my year off now to do Rave of Thrones and gallivant all over the world.?

The move ditches Bran and Hodor now that they?ve reached Bran?s three-eyed crow mentor, which is nearly as far as the characters have progressed in George R.R. Martin?s novels. For the fifth season of the series, producers are going to a new Westeros country ? Dorne, which will be shot in Spain ? and adding some new characters. Leaving behind Bran will give the show more time to spend with the new characters, and some time for the other storylines to catch up to Bran?s (as well as for Martin potentially to release his next book in the saga, The Winds of Winter).

Martin himself did a similar maneuver in his novels as his saga?s scope expanded, leaving out some key characters from his last two books. Still, the move is bound to upset some fans of Bran?s storyline, and marks the first time a major character has been benched for a full season. HBO would not comment or confirm.

They just want to build up tension for his epic return on the back of a dragon, controlling people's minds, burning white walkers, and smiting Lannisters in season 6.

Read the five existing books and you'll understand. The story does take a huge turn at some point and Dorne and what's been happening there while all this other stuff (wars, the wall, etc) was going on.

People bitched about the books as well for this. I'm not sure why people can't just accept that THIS is the way it happened, just shaddap and let the author tell it already. It will all be tied together by the end, of that I have zero doubt. And, possibly by season 6, or maybe in a final season, I think Bran will play a huge role. Huge.

I'm more anxious to get at that 6th book. Martin, come on man, let's get it cracking already.

Okay I need to stop reading this thread.

Man you guys are real pricks. It's one thing to elude that more will come in the next seasons, but to outright define some of the things that are going to happen...

Nobody really knows what's going to happen, even if they have read the books. There are some plot differences between the books and the series which aren't necessarily huge, but they are definitely significant and seem to be getting moreso as the series continues.

If I am not mistaken, there are two books in the series that each exclude half the characters, because it was originally one book covering the same timeline but it was just two damn long and the only way to divide it was to put half the storylines in each.

Imagine a season without Tyrion. Crazy right? If Bran is left out it could only be to let the other characters story lines progress. I think his finding that tree was a pretty significant, end-game event and if they go any further with him it's going to reveal too much of the endgame.

For some reason he has been toooo busy producing other shit to finish book 6.

Actually people are bitching more about the fact that Martin is writting a book on every 6-8 years. And he's not actually healthy, or young.... BUT here's what he think about that :

I began re-reading the books last month and am about 2/3 of the way through book three now. I'm learning tons of stuff that I missed the first time I read them, largely due to having tore through them on the first read (because they were so damn good). It's true that no one knows exactly what's going to happen, or at any rate HOW certain things will happen. Martin is as we've seen many times very drawn to major plot twists and he isn't afraid to kill off even who we think are the most central of characters.

In other words the author is a monster, and just now kings are dying like flies. :D

I'm a bit disappointed anyway with the 4th season. I mean it was still great show but I don't like where the plot is going now.

Each season before was ending with spectacular win of Dany and now what... suddenly shit, she lost her mind?.

It's his WARG powers that will come into play if my hunch is correct. We've already seen in the series (and in the books as well) that his power is developing rapidly. He controlled Hodor in that tower, something that, according to Jojen, "no one has ever done... ever."

Who knows how powerful he'll be a few seasons/books from now?

You really should read the books.

He became an old heart tree.
Maybe he can have some power this way. Who knows.

If you've read the books and you're still asking questions about how he can do things then you weren't paying attention man. There is no 'maybe'. He has exhibited his powers throughout the entire story. What he's become will only serve to make his abilities even more useful, and that is not just my opinion, it's right there in clues in certain passages of the existing books.

If he can control wolves and people, well call me crazy but perhaps later in the books/series yet to come he just might (in his new more powerful all-seeing state) be able to, oh I don't know... control a dragon? (and thus... "fly", as the greenseer said).

The clues are there though, in the books as well as the series we've all been watching. Daenarys has been having more and more trouble controlling her dragons as they get bigger. Bran's ability to take control of living beings is growing stronger and stronger. I believe, and this is no spoiler, it's just an opinion on how this part of the story may play out, that since Bran is possibly the only person in the world with that level of "warg" ability, and Daenarys is the only one in the world with living dragons, that the two of them are going to end up helping each other somehow. Bran will help her control her dragons, and Danni will perhaps be able to use them to restore order to Westeros.

I of course could be wrong on that, but the story really is going in that sort of direction.
