You can with Epoch. They started in Europe but within the last year added it to their United States offerings as well. There are restrictions, but it's doable.
That's good for our industry. Assuming Paypal doesn't change their BS policy of "zero possibility of chargeback for virtual goods", then this will protect site owners who run monthly subscription sites.
I noticed that Ebay gave me a notice saying that they no longer own Paypal.
My guess is that has a lot to do with Paypal resuming with adult. The big Paypal nuclear bomb happened when Ebay took them over years ago and cut all adult processing.

Pretty sure it's more of Shareholder pressure as they return it to Nasdaq under PYPL.
Also opens it up to possible acquisition down the line, Google etc...

Due to paypal processing adult again? Guess you are overestimating things a bit here.
Both companies are stronger without being tied in together, specially PP has more growth opportunities without Ebay. Think about processing for companies like Amazon and Alibaba.
If you read their acceptable use policy, even today there is still the stipulation about adult content so before anyone gets to excited you might want to ask them directly.
As far as I know, people processing through epoch and those selling physical products are the only ones allowed to use paypal. But hey that could change - mind as well ask.
As a merchant you shouldn't be thinking this is the Holy Grail or anything. If someone wants to buy your stuff, they will and they'll use their credit card to do it.
If they choose the Paypal option, you're paying significantly more in transaction fees. (earning less per member).
of course they process porn just not for you or for me or for the 1000's of accounts they have jacked because of the mere possibility that a transaction was adult related

That's not what I was saying at all.
When Ebay bought Paypal...they immediately stopped processing for adult. Ebay wanted no bad publicity associated with their company at that time. And to be associated with online porn went against their "morals".
So no, I wasn't saying that adult had anything to do with Paypal and Ebay splitting. I'm saying that now that they have split, PayPal is no longer restricted by the owners of Ebay as far as processing adult.

We might see some changes coming soon with the " Moral " issue.
Just today a lady is getting sued for not issuing a license to Marry a gay couple. She said it was a Moral Issue.

That is incorrect. Paypal stopped processing adult long before being acquired by Ebay.
The reason Paypal stopped directly processing for adult was that the Credit Card associations asked them to stop on the grounds of risk management.
Hmmm...I don't remember PayPal having anything to do with any credit card association back then.
Looking at the history of Paypal taking credit cards and actually issuing them...it looks like that came later...not back in 2003.
At least everything I'm reading online about the history of PayPal points to that.
And I've had a Paypal account since they first opened...it wasn't until several years later that they issued me a MasterCard and it seems like just a few years back that they started accepting credit cards for payment too.
PayPal was started as an alternative to credit cards.
Plus credit card companies themselves (except AMEX) all process online porn. That doesn't make any sense.
Are you sure of what you are saying? And how do you know that?

Every aggregator that accepts credit cards is bound by the decisions of the card associations. Paypal is no different and was no different when Paypal stopped allowing adult transactions via Paypal.
Paypal's decision to stop processing for adult was a risk management decision alone, nothing to do with eBay or taking a moral stance.
For over three years I have dealt with high level executives from Paypal, I know what I am talking about.

My point was that Paypal was NOT accepting credit cards when it dropped Adult.
And they are accepting credit cards now and are processing for adult.
And again, how do you know any of what you are stating? Can you link me to something?
I'm just curious now myself.
Let me set the timeline:
Paypal doesn't take credit cards in it's early days...thus nothing to do with credit card "associations".
Paypal purchased for 1.5 Billion dollars in 2012 by Ebay.
Paypal drops adult processing a few months later.
Ebay divests itself of Paypal.
Paypal resumes adult processing.
Paypal started trials with companies like Epoch well before the eBay/Paypal split.
The decisions made by Paypal in relation to Adult over ten years ago were risk management decisions and nothing to do with eBay or some moral stance.
Paypal's trials with adult through aggregators are also governed by risk management principles.
It's worth noting that in some regions, people were able to link their credit cards to their Paypal accounts well before 2003.
I am totally aware of when Paypal began working with Epoch. I use them as one of my billers.
I am also cognizant that when a company is splitting off, changes are made before the actual split in anticipation of that split. Slow changes so as to not "rock the boat"
And I was unaware that anyone was able to link their credit cards to Paypal back then. Not saying it isn't true. Just saying that I wasn't aware of it.
Do you know of any link that you could show me that shows when Paypal first began using credit cards? And can you explain why the "risk" was and is still fine with credit cards but for some reason was NOT fine for Paypal for the duration of their ownership by Ebay?
You're really not giving me any info. You're just telling me what you think. Which is pretty much all I'm doing too.
We need some facts man to straighten this mystery out!
paypal (credit card)

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, it is not possible to use paypal without a credit card: From their Help page:
Q: Once I have opened an International PayPal account, what will I need to do to use it?
A: For membership confirmation purposes, PayPal will charge your credit card a $1.95 membership fee. The charge will accompany a unique, randomly generated 4 digit Member Number.
"International" here means outside usa. Interestingly, they do not expect to have more than 10,000 international members (unique 4 digit member number!)
There's a quote from 2002 about not being able to use Paypal without a credit card.
So maybe that's why I wasn't aware of it? "International" not USA.
Because the first time I remember seeing the ability to use a credit card with Paypal was a few years back.
Matter of fact, here is the date that it started:
"In 2007, PayPal announced a partnership with MasterCard that led to the development and launch of the PayPal Secure Card service, a software that allows customers to make payments on websites that do not accept PayPal directly by generating a unique, single-use MasterCard number for each checkout."
I'm pretty sure that was the year that Paypal issued me my mastercard too.

Paypal issuing cards and accepting credit cards are two separate things.
Paypal was always funded via credit card before they added bank funding.
Paypal doesn't have the profit margin to offset the risk factors in transactions for ''virtual'' porn transactions is my guessing. Also the merchant registration processes required by VISA and Mastercard (initial and renewal fees) are an administrative burden. If the adult processing business was profitable to them -- they would do it but maybe under a separate business name division I would speculate.
Truth is: There are to many sleazeballs in the porn business with their hidden and ''plain-site'' cross-sales and also card banging deceptions to make Paypal even consider doing adult processing directly.
So, they farmed the processing out to Epoch and are letting them handle the problems -- that is why the processing fees are what they are

Hey Barry,
thanks for that.
Correct me if I am wrong but we can not use EPOCH only for paypal, they need to be our first payment method, or am I mistaking ?
Now that they have spun off from ebay.. wonder if they will get more liberal and have a join through ccbill and other payment solutions
This will have more to do with CCBill that Paypal. They went with Epoch because Epoch is assuming the risk. As stated it is a simple risk management issue.
Tangibles have always been ok with Paypal.

I cannot speak for Epoch's Policies. As them Monday for details that would be terms applicable to your firm ... but many here have said no PayPal only -- they want a mix of credit cards and PayPal ...
