My mother got it done, and it was a flawless procedure from what she told me. And it worked for her. YMMV.

My wife did it and they screwed up big time. It took a year for her vision to recover. She refused to let them touch her again to fix their mess.

i had 20/400(+) vision too. 20/20-20/10 now

The procedure is a trip tho. you are awake the whole time as they slice a lid out of your cornea. You momentarily go blind during the procedure (this is normal). A lot of people freak out. The nurse held my hand through the whole thing. Hey, I'm a pussy, so what?

First time since the 5th grade I didn't have to wear corrective lenses.

The only advice I could give ya is if you are in the USA DO NOT get the surgery in Canada. I don't care how much cheaper it is. If they fuck up you can't sue.

Got it done almost 3 years ago. Best money I ever spent.

I got an RK a few years prior to that and my eyes went bad again.

Got it done last May. One of the best decisions I've made. Well worth every penny. Plus, due to its corrective nature, its partially tax deductible [or so my CPA tells me].

My girlfriend had hers done about a year ago, and it went perfectly. The only thing she had a problem with was a slight problem seeing at night for the first month or so when driving, but that cleared up.

i've heard some horror stories. i was thinking about getting it done. i don't wear glasses, i used to for a few years when i was a kid, but my vision corrected.

my eyes are good enough to pass eye exams, but they seem to be degrading a bit.

After the surgery and recovery period she could not focus on anything near or far. The doctors said they had made an error and wanted to repeat the proceedure; she said NO way. It took about a year and her vision recovered on it's own.

If you do it I suggest you do it one eye at a time. If it works it is wonderful if not it is a disaster.

I've heard it is really good, aside from the fact it will worsen your night vision. If that is a factor for you, most likely lasik is not what you want.

I considered and researched it until I found out it will Disqualify me from ever becoming a Coast Guard Pilot. At least with the bad vision I have in my left eye I might be able to split some hairs. With LASIK I'd run the risk of having my eye explode in the event of cabin depressurization therefore disqualifying me automatically.

If I don't get into flight school I plan on having it done.

Really? How would the lasik surgery create that kind of risk for the eyes under cabin depressurization, other then someone who hasn't had lasik down?

I have no idea, but this is what the CG doctor at the Cape Cod Air Station told me. I would have assumed it had to do with the decreased night vision problem, but he claimed it was due to the pressure problem. I'll find out next time I talk to him.

only thing is that you feel a pressure in eyeball socket when they open it up and then another pressure when they make the slice

As a rule of thumb, one would think you should wait 10 years from when they first started using the procedure before doing something like that. At least in a situation where it's not necessary.

That's what I've elected to do. It would suck if everything was cool for like 6-7 years and then al the sudden your eyeballs deflate or some freaky shit.

believe it or not, i walked out of that surgery with 20/15 vision
i mean instantly as soon as the procedure was done and drove home, the eye is like that fasted healing body part

only thing is that your eyes will be sensitive to the light, kinda of like when you get your pupils dialated, so you have to wear sunglasses for the first day

yep thats what i was worried also,,there is no gaurantee
but i found that Europeans have been doing it for over 20 years now,

plus i bought the lifetime warranty, just in case

Money well spent for me. Had it done about 18 mos now. Went from -270/-340 to 20/20 and 20/15. I would say that my night vision with glasses was better as I still get some halos around lights. Not that bad though and you get totally used to it and dont even notice. I use to have to have that alarm clock with numbers nearly 6 inches high, just so my formerly blind ass could read the clock in the middle of the night, so for me this surgery has been liberating. I can see in the pool underwater, fall asleep watching TV and not roll over and have mashed glasses face, and I can wear sunglasses that dont have to be as thick as coke bottles.

I would recommend the surgery to anyone, but I wouldnt seek out the cheapest price.

Wasnt painless for me. The process where they press down on the eye to hold it steady so the cutting can be done precisely hurt. They pressed down so hard it burst a number of blood vessels in my eyes and i had bloodshot eyes for days afterwards. In spite of all that, I still give this procedure two thumbs up and a toe.

My doc handed out valium prior to surgery for anxiety, so I was feeling okidoki even as they were mashing my eyes down.

I had it done. Literally took like 30 seconds each eye. Wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it might be. They prescribed me drugs to take before the surgery to keep me calm (they do this with most people where I went).

Had a slight problem though. My eyes were so dry afterwards, the flap on my right eye moved and I had to have it stitched to hold it in place so it could heal right. (Doctor said out of 4,000 surgeries he did, he had to do this to 6 people. Lucky me.) My left eye was fine and I could see perfect out of it the same night. My advice is to put drops in every half hour to hour after surgery. They'll give you what you need. And go to someone that is a big name no matter what it costs. That way if there is a problem, they won't panic and will know what to do to fix it.

My vision is now better than 20/20. I don't notice anything different at night. A few weeks after you get it done your eyes will be sensitive to light and you have to make sure not to rub them or get water in them.

Has anyone tried those soft contact lenses that you can leave in for a month? It's an option I might try .. they're pretty new, at least here in Oz. Sounds kinda uncomfortable though ..

My flying instructor said that Lasik will (at least for now) disqualify you for commercial flying. Can't have the pilots eyeballs exploding at 30,000 feet now hey?
