    Dog Groomers:

I bath my dog frequently with just water and I shampoo him once a month.

Lately I?ve been kind of busy so I took him to a groomer for bath /shampoo and had a bad experience. They gave me form to fill out called in the back for someone to get him and told me to pick him up in 3 hours because there were other dogs ahead of him.
I asked if I could just bring him back in a few hours and stay with him, they said it was against their insurance regulations. I decided to just leave rather than argue with the jerks, they already lost all credibility with me with that insurance nonsense.

I would appreciate knowing if any of you use a dog groomer and what precautions you take to see that they are treating your dog properly?

like anyone looking after pets, there are people who love dogs and will go out of their way to protect and look after your dog and then there are nutbars who just care about getting paid and treat them like livestock. My advice it to get to know the people first. I don't know how well others are at reading people but I can tell inside of a 2 minute conversation.

we are lucky to have friends who run kennels and know they are good with them. We have retrievers though, just take them to the beach and they are all clean and good to go.. heh

Mobile pet grooming services is your best bet. It costs more but it least i know my pets are not sitting in a kennel for hours waiting their turn. Plus it takes away the stress (mostly for my cat) of being in the car.

I did wash my dog with just water about 3 times for it's first 6,5 years. Now I have washed it with shampoo, twice in a half year. Washing is for my sake, not for the dogs. Well, actually one "bitch" (no, not another dog) complained about the smell, so I washed the dog.

But no, I don't have experience about dog groomers. But if I would use one, I would like to see the procedure or at least the facilities.

Ugh I've had a few terrible experiences with groomers. One mowed right over my dog's dew claws like she didn't know they were there. All were scratched up and a little bloody.

Another one yelled at the dogs while I was still there.

My best advice is to hang around for twenty minutes and watch how the operation works. How they treat the other animals. How stressed the other animals look as they arrive and leave.

            Hope that helps!

We took our cat to a groomers once. Never again. When we got our cat back one of her back legs were sprained. Clearly she was groomed by someone who had no experience and no patience. When we complained they refused to tell us which groomer it was. Bastards, assholes, monsters and cowards. Learn to groom your animal on your own. It's less stressful and costs alot less.

Our dogs wait their turn, like every other dog in the place.
