I've never had a problem with GoDaddy.

Don't know about the best, but I've never had a security issue with directnic after 100's of domains and several years.

GoDaddy's been great, it's cheap and if you wanna transfer a domain, they'll call you before they actually agree to it

Domain Name Systems seconded.

Been using them for nearly 4 years. no problems, easy management, a registrar lock option, and privacy domains.

Yep, Directnic does have a lock feature. Godaddy is great also.
