I think the trend will continue. There is value in single purpose things. Multi tasking is overrated anyway. We should all be single tasking!Comment

...what's it called? The DSU(doubleseatedunicycle)? Nice idea but i think you will need a partner at your weight to get balance on it...Comment

Single speed might be ok as a beater to take to bars, but for any real riding you are just sacrificing the ability to go faster. Being a couple ounces lighter isn't going to compensate when you max out how fast you can peddle in your gear. Or if you have a big fast gear, then to get it started you'll just be very slow
So yea... HipsterishSupComment

Whatever. It's fucking light and tires are slim - 0.25. I rode it today - pure pleasure.Single speed might be ok as a beater to take to bars, but for any real riding you are just sacrificing the ability to go faster. Fun is I was unable to figure out what speed of a regular bike can be compared to a
single speed bike - no shop had the answer.
So, had to try it before ordering, its a pure 7th speed - I mean 3 on the left bar and 7 on the right.Русня, идите нахуй!Comment

I ride a single speed I built primarily. I live in a flat city.

The frame is from my Dad's old bike, had been collecting dust in his shed. I gave it a new life. Great bike, blast to ride. Very fast.AIM - thePardovich

too funny seeing people with the need to denigrate a bicycle because it's pure simplicity/single-purpose.Single speed might be ok as a beater to take to bars, but for any real riding you are just sacrificing the ability to go faster. Buying more than you need is what's ridiculous. if a single speed bike accomplishes what you need it for, a quick grocery-getter/errand runner etc, then getting more bike is what's poser.
If I were exercising on my bike or training for a triathalon or mountain biking or doing road work, I'd get the appropriate bike.Comment

They are.
Single speed is a bike you run the same manner as your 21 but you have one speed only - means you speed pedaling it rolls on... but fixie is where you NEVER is able to stop pedaling, but you could even do BACK pedal
The best fixie could be 9kg max.Last edited by Sid70; 08-08-2014, 06:22 AM.Русня, идите нахуй!Comment

fixed gear the pedals always turn with the rear wheel is turning, single speed can coast with the pedal not turning. I have both hubs on mine, I can flip the rear wheel quickly depending on which I want. I usually keep it single speed.
it impacts the weight by not having all the gears, derailleurs, cables, controllers, etc.
certainly you can get lighter and have all the bells and whistles, that will cost ya though.Comment

I said it's ok if you want a beater to go to bars. But if I was grabbing groceries or anything with weight id want it easier to pedal to compensate compared to not being weighted down. Still even if your city is flat, stopping and starting is far more efficient with gears. Easier to pedal when slowing for a stop, easier to pedal when speeding back up then gear back uptoo funny seeing people with the need to denigrate a bicycle because it's pure simplicity/single-purpose.

no need for the bicycle lesson.Comment
