Battery life is 2 hours (and it charges for less than 1 dollar). The article is very short to read. Kind of sucks that they're only available for cops and special forces. I'm sure that's as much to do with some astronomical price tag as anything else. Their budgets are as massive as many countries entire military no doubt, so LA can afford to play around with it if anyone can.

These would be awesome if they could get the battery life up to 5 or 6 hours. 2 hours is pretty useless.

No sense throwing out the completely usable until the perfect perfection arrives. Why is 2 hours useless? I haven't driven farther away than 1 hour in decades and would have very little need to today either. 2 hours would be so much more than enough for someone like me who needs to just run a few errands a couple of times a month. Where's the "vespa" sized and styled all electric bike? I'll take one right now.

I agree. If they can increase the range and decrease the time needed to charge them they would be even better. Still awesome though.

I'm just fine with reality. It's the realization of you own ignorance on important issues that have your panties in a bunch.

1. I knew you couldn't put me on ignore.

2. So if you're all about reality why did you flip out at me over simply pointing out that batt tech lags behind in the other thread? That's not my ignorance showing, I stated a fact, you're the one that had a problem with that, seems the ignorance lies with you eh.

eh.

The police ordered it for it's quiet stealth properties which is what the military want's it for as well. It could run off of beer, piss or gas as long as it's quiet.

8-12 hour shift, 2 hours of mobility, odds are very good it will be low on charge when needed even if re-charged a couple times.

Here's what we know. A lot of people don't want to believe that it's going to be "good enough" so won't support it. While the cops think it's good enough to order some, the military agrees, and in fact sales are limited to those groups so we don't know how many others would like one right now. I think we can see the trend here without much trouble honestly.

OR buy an old honda rebel for like 5-600 bucks, pay 8 bucks to fill it up once a month and ride that for 6.5 hours give or take.

which is more efficient again?

It's quiet stealth properties are the only reason it's getting orders. No one needs a small motorcycle like that except for special ops. Be very interesting to see the price .......

I don't know for sure but a good guess would be that the police are also looking at the ongoing costs. Most of energy used to move cops around now is probably used just for cruising, with the average time of high speed chases (probably) very low compared to cruising.

So with this in mind, maybe this is a great way for them to save money. Not only do they not have to buy gas anymore, but they also don't have all kinds of maintenance to do either :

Quote:
TOP 15 THINGS YOU’LL NEVER DO AGAIN (from http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/advantages/)

I read on the site that charging takes only 1 hour, and the batteries are swappable too. So technically I guess that means that when a Bike gets low in the middle of the day, he just has to pull up to the police station and swap the dead battery for a fully charged one in a few seconds and off he goes again.

You're over thinking this. The bikes have value because they make no noise. That is why they are being purchased. The type of fuel isn't a factor at all it's the lack of noise that makes them a tactical choice.

85 mph tops??? I could beat that on a YZ 250 and still have time to laugh, these bikes are not being made for high end chase.

I watched the moto X with two on the track, looked like mopeds fighting for second gear.

Maybe... but thats why I said "I don't know for sure...". But their own website lists the things and service list that are needed on a gas powered bike, but that are not needed on this bike. If you have alot of bikes, normal service and maintenance can add up.

Actually... me too..! Here in Montreal, the charging stations are at malls, some parking lots, some Hotels, etc. They are also popping up in front of hardware stores (Rona) and restaurants. This year Montreal announced a plan to add them to public streets as a trial. So maybe donut shops aren't that far off.
