Less important than it used to be because:
(1) Most everything in this side of the business gives lower ROI than it used to.
(2) The board has a higher percentage of people with blank sigs and no apparent business reason for being here.

This is a double edged sword for reason of all of the non-business related bullshit, I and collectively we, excluding the worst of the trolls here -- for them it is a one way street.
My business related posts are addressed to the "board lurkers" at GFY.
My political jousting or opinionated statements do not reflect the policies or people's views of our enterprises (The AC Webconnecting Group (the parent holding company)). In most cases, if posted comments are not business related, the opinions or remarks my own personal positions. Most of the real business people around here just keep to topic -- that is their choice ...
This board's (forum's) rudeness is intimidating often. Having been a construction worker and then a contractor for 14 years, I am a degreed expert in being rude and engaging in put-down contests -- we did that on the job-sites for sport and entertainment, to pass the time so I am thick skinned usually. But it's very easy to see why many read and never engage for fear of the rabid responses around here.Comment

The lurkers are still here. That is proved everytime a certain thread pops up, and they all appear. So there is still plenty of eyes on GFY.
People moan about lack of biz threads etc, but i can imagine how slow it would move if it was only biz threads. And besides, GFY was never just a biz board. I think people have short memories. I can remember spending many nights on here years ago and it was just full of crazy shit. But fun at the same time.
Not as many people are in the industry anymore. And those of us who are, probably don't have too many things they need to ask since they know exactly what they are doing. And not like when we were all noobs with a lot to learn...

I havent maintained a presence here in quite a while.
I setup 2 facebook accounts and moved all my 'business only' friends to the other one so I'm free to post about my personal stuff to people I'm close to, and I only check the business account every couple of days. Very few business friends remain on my personal facebook now. In other words, I have much more freedom. I'm happier.
One thing you'll notice is that income in this biz is up and down, with lots more 'down' than it used to be... lots of 'friends' love to be around you when it's up. But when it's down, they are like 'I'm busy' etc etc. But they are never too busy for me when they have a question.
So I let them off at the bottom and didnt invite them back for the trip up.
You dont need to maintain a presence to be successful. Just do your thing.Comment

this is where I come to let out my Mr. Hyde side. Stopped thinking of it as a place to do business a while back, removed my sig when someone used it to fuck with my business and create a ton of false accounts at sponsors I had existing accounts with, and send fraud joins, whereby the sponsors started banning my actual accounts because of a tenuous 'link' with those and the fraud ones.
So yeah, this place is a shithole cesspit of tools, and no aff managers who at least could keep up with who is who in the actual biz.
Fair play to the owners though, adapt or die, and it's all about the views for advertising. Shame though really I guess.Comment

I only have a high school education and didn't go to some fancy pants college, but for lack of a better term I would call it "descending paragraphs". With this technique, I would make each paragraph a little bit shorter than the last, thereby verbally bashing my opponent into submission, as I finally wound it down to the end -- where I would use the shortest line for the eventual Coup de gras (French: A deathblow delivered to end the misery of a mortally wounded victim).
Except, I would do it all in one succinct posed rather than hitting the "Submit Reply" over and over again like a monkey hurling his own excrement at visitors at the window at the zoo...you fucking moron!
