random 3 letters out of the password = "verified by visa" in UK.

You get hit with it the first you use most online stores here...

Some banks use a different system where you have a password and answer a security question - It's not down to the store it's your issuing bank that enforces it - When you verify you get sent back to the site.....

they can still be used online without a pin?

what makes me curious is how did these people run cards in some bizarre area of the world without the transaction being blocked?

They probably had the entire wallet with identification etc., and whoever they were (the legit owner of the card), they were traveling internationally, so they were probably making purchases in different countries.

the entire wallet doesn't matter.. if someone attempts to buy something online with my card in eastern ukraine.. it's not going through lol

i can't even use my own card with my entire wallet of identification within my own country without talking to someone :1orglaugh

Kinda useless if 99% of online merchants don't use this protection and it still goes through with cvv only :2 cents:

What makes you think they used it in eastern ukrain? I imagine there isn't a single vendor who'd take dutch credit card right now. Most likely they used it on-line like every carder scum does. Sent some shit to drop location or paid for digital goods.

LOL :) The only accident I had with my VISA has happened in IAD Washington, DC (it was used to by a ticket to Orlando, FL). That card was almost empty so that was the only time it was used in the United States. Guess that? When I returned to Russia, I've got a call from my bank. They asked if I in Chicago right now, because someone there has tried to use my card (in fact it was a copy of course) but entered a wrong PIN code. I asked to block the card immediately and no money was lost. So it was the only card fraud issue in my life :)

P.S. Never had a single problem in any other country around the Globe :2 cents:
