In Syria and Iraq recently thousands of civilians continue to be targeted and killed daily, a fact ignored by a disinterested media. Regardless, the Israeli-haters (Jew-haters) will never be placated even in the knowledge that 1 in 5 Israeli's being targeted by Hamas are Arabs.

How is this even close to being a parallel? Hamas is the GOVERNMENT of Gaza. They were elected in the internationally certified elections in 2006. They hold the majority of seats in the parliament, and are the elected representatives of the people there. If the GOVERNMENT of Ireland was launching rockets into Northern Ireland, then the government of the UK would have been bombing those launch sites also. Remember what the UK did to civilians in Germany after the German government started bombing London? The German Blitz only killed a TINY percentage of people in the UK compared to the number of Germans killed by Allied bombing. Was that "unfair"?

After 284 rockets were fired over a period of 3 days, Israel finally started to respond last week. They were actually calling the places from which rockets were being fired, and giving 10 minutes warning prior to bombing, and then dropping a flare from a drone to try to make sure that innocents got out before the bomb. They aren't just bombing at random. Meanwhile, the government of Hamas has been trying to get people to not evacuate, so that they can have as much death as possible of their human shields, since this give them the ability to say "woe is me" to the media. They don't care about keeping their people safe, they just want their human shields to be as effective as possible. Meanwhile, Hamas certainly hasn't sent any warnings about the almost 1,000 rockets that they have launched in the last 2 weeks. War is a horrible thing, and innocent people are killed all the time. The difference between Israel and Hamas, is that Israel wants to protect it's people, and hamas wants to use them as propaganda tools, no matter what the cost.

Who's land is it? I mean, at this point it's hard to tell. I did go into the occupied territories as well as Israel.

First, understand that a lot of your premises upon which you are basing your questions are not correct. Israel is in fact the MOST secular state in the middle east. Again, I urge you to go there and see for yourself. 1 out of 5 Israeli citizens are Muslim Arabs. There are people of ALL races and religions that are citizens of Israel, with full rights. This is in sharp contrast to the rest of the middle east, you should note. Look at what happens to jews, christians, and the wrong muslim sect in other countries in the area (let alone gays, women, etc...). You should know that as a kid, in the late 70s, I lived in South Africa, which really WAS an apartheid state. There, you would see blacks only treated in black hospitals, no vote, etc, etc.... Go to Israel and you will see Jewish, and Arab Doctors working the same hospitals, treating Jewish and Arab patients, Arabs have the full right to vote, serve in the Israeli parliament, open shops, etc, etc, etc...

In 1948, when Israel became a state, the leadership begged the local arabs to stay, and be part of it. Quite a few did stay, and became Israeli citizens, with full rights and access to everything, just like any other citizen. The rest of them were persuaded by the surrounding arab states that if they would just leave, and then join their armies as shock troop irregulars, they would together sweep all the jews into the sea. So they went out, were equipped by the surrounding states, and attacked Israel. This attempt failed, and the neighboring states, who had pushed the local Arabs to leave, and wanted their help, did not then allow them to become citizens of those other states. They kept them penned without passports in those border camps, that grew into the cities we see today, 60 years later. At the same time, about 700,000 Jews in those neighboring states were being thrown out of homes and villages that they had lived in for hundreds of years. In those cases, Israel accepted them as citizens, rather than keeping them without passports in border camps.

I would also encourage people to go to Gaza, etc... The population has trebled in the last 60 years, there are thriving markets, there are shopping malls, etc... Not exactly the terrible prison that people portray it to be. Israel actually supplies them with electricity and water, and humanitarian aid, (EVEN now, during the rocket attacks), which would be a stupid thing to do if they were trying to wipe them out,right?

It should also be noted that Eqypt built a huge wall on THEIR border with Gaza also. They publicly "support" the people there, but they do not allow any border crossings between Eqypt and Gaza. Why is that?

As for why it is a Jewish state, the reason is that Jews have been let down by governments, pretty much without fail, through the last 2,000 years. Time and time again, we were told that it would be safe to live in country X.... and then 40, or 100 years later, pogroms, crusades, etc... would show up to kill us, forcibly convert us, or drive us out to be stateless again. Personally, I think that this situation is going to happen again, very very soon, in Europe, and that the Jews will be driven out of France, Holland, etc... Because of this we know that we can never rely on another government to protect us forever, and we need a state of our own. Having said that, it really is as secular a country as the US.


One final point about the Hasidim that are pictured protesting Israel and it's right to exist as a state. If you go there you will find out all about them. The Hasidic Orthodox see that Israel is a secular state, and that it does not strictly follow orthodox Judeaism in it's laws. The Orthodox council issued a statement in 1937 stating:

"Agudath Israel in the Land of Israel rejects outright any attempt at despoiling the Land of Israel of its sanctity and considers the proposal to establish a secular Jewish state in Palestine as a hazard to the lofty role of the Jewish People as a holy nation. Agudath Israel in the Land of Israel declares that Orthodox Jewry could only agree to a Jewish state in all the Land of Israel if it were possible for the basic constitution of this state to guarantee Torah rule in the overall public and national life"

So these people, whom the majority of Jews consider kind of wackos, oppose Israel. MEANWHILE, they still live in Israel, refusing to work or serve in the army, living off of the dole, and studying torah all day, while having large numbers of children that the state is forced to support since the men don't work. It's a bizarre situation.

It is so ironic to us Jews that the world thinks that we are behind such a huge, world wide conspiracy. Firstly, we are only 0.02% of the population, about 13 million worldwide, and even with those small numbers, to the rest of the world, somehow we are portrayed as this united front, but meanwhile we argue about EVERY TOPIC, pretty much CONSTANTLY. You want three opinions about something? Ask two Jews. If you read Israel news, you will see every kind of opinion expressed, about every topic, as is proper in an open society.

Arab states have a terrible record its true, supported by the USA and by Israel, against any radical reform. The land has been taken by force and occupied by people who have come from far to live there.

Land does not belong to anyone and anyone should have the right to settle in peace in a place of their choosing.

Hamas didn't agree, and instead fired another 60 rockets in that time, (One of which horribly and ironically injured two Bedouin girls in Israel). Does Hamas want peace, or are they willing to have people die in order to make political hay? Why do they try to get people to NOT evacuate when Israel warns them where the next bomb is coming?
