    The ?uro, good or bad?

I'm not sure whether it's good or bad, but I like it the way it is right now... So I'll vote NO when we have to decide!

Anyone that has experience of the euro, is it better now or is it worse?

I traveled through a bunch of countries in Europe and it was nice not to have to exchange money in every country I went to (except Switzerland and the UK).
I post on GFY so that when people ask me what I do,
I can tell them that I work with the mentally retarded.

I have a sister lives in Brussells Belgium , and she hates it , She runs a Cafe/Bar , with her husband , and they had big problems when they first changed over . I live in the UK , and will always vote against it , if we are ever put in that position .

I've heard that it has been much more expensive to live in countries like Spain and Greece, anyone that knows more about that?

Yesterday when I was in Camden Market I saw the first shop I have seen in the UK with a 'we accept Euros' sign.

The reason for being more expensive in the southern part of Europe is because of peoples creative book keeping during the exchange.
They grab every chance to make a little more and even f... their own countrymen. There is to much gred involved.
And what did they get out of it...? Tourism dropped 25 % last summer in the sunny part of Europe...So who fu.... who..?

It will probably take another two- three years...then prices will be back to normal..

Generally I'm in favour and would vote yes should the UK be asked. As has been posted ANY price hikes are only down to greed and people trying to pull a fast one. Odd thing is a few of the places I visit in Hamburg when I pop over (I just love the DOM when the beer festival is on) have rounded down. WTF though it'd make life so much easier once the initial changeover period has gone and things settle down. I'm all for an easy life

The U$D has fallen from about 10.20 SEK to about 8.30 SEK within 10 months... That's approx. 8%... I hate that!

even though I have the right to vote here...if it comes to a vote, I won't vote. As I am not really British I feel it isn't fair for me to influence that decisson.

That's bugger all to do with the Euro. It's simply the dollar being shit at the moment. The pound has gotten even stronger than the Euro against the dollar

Voting for or against the EURO should take a bit more of macroeconomic understanding than most people actually have. And neither the pro nor the con sides are managing to enlighten people too well on the benefits versus the drawbacks of having a single currency all over Europe.

Personally, I am all for it. Most people that are all for it simply like the reduced hassle when changing money for their vacation, but there's much more to the EURO than that.

If some of you think that the price ajustments will go the wrong way this time around, you're mistaken. The 3 countries left to introduce the EURO have learned something from the initial single-currency introduction hysteria and their governments will most likely see to it that the prices will get adjusted right this time around.

What bugs me the most isn't the the Euro it self, it's that we'll loose control over our economy to Brussels...
Well, that's the whole point, isn't it? If the right economic policy would be enforced all over Europe then I see a lot of advantages to it. And a united Europe with a stable economy can only benefit its countries and their citizens. It could take a decade or so for this to hapen, but the there are great possibilities for a beneficial outcome.

I'm not sure whether it's good or bad, but I like it the way it is right now... So I'll vote NO when we have to decide!
That's gotta be one of the most intelligent arguments for voting against it. Basically, what you're saying is "It doesn't seem broken, so why fix it?" I guess you're right, where would we be today if our ancestors, garandparents and parents had been content with their respective situations? Probably riding mules to harvest crops using our bare hands.

I'd say all you naysayers give this some more thought before putting your thumbs on the "NO".

if it is on the ballot with other things I will vote for those and spoil that part. It isn't my currency I don't think I have the right to vote for such a permanent change to British culture. Other things like mayor, etc are different. I truely love the British for giving me the right to vote, I'm just feel like it would be unfair for me to vote on that issue.

i know what you are saying...it is just a weird hangup I have. I vote in everything I can on both sides of the Atlantic. I would probably vote yes just because I have used the Euro and liked it. However, I can't get myself to be as passionate about it as so many in this country. I suppose that is because it isn't my history, etc.

Who knows, by the time it happens I might actually have my dual citizenship and then I might change my mind.

Well, the problem is that smaller and less powerfull countries like Sweden, Denmark or Greece wouldn't have that much of a say if Germany, France or the U.K want to change something.

I believe that if a few of the more powerfull countries in the EU got financial problems they'd be able to 'manipulate' Brusells for their good, and the smaller countries would have to follow even if their economy is great the way it is. As it is today the countries outside the EMU/Euro can solve their problems by themselves, and do what's best for that particular country.

Today, yes. But for how long?

And what makes you think that the *bigger* countries will run into problems? Yes, some of the Eruopean economies might need more stimulation than others right now, but on the other hand the world economy overall isn't doing too great either. As for Sweden, the economy was doing great back in August, but the prognosis has worsened since. It wouldn't surprise me if the government actually fucked it up bad before we even got around to a referendum about EMU, question would be then if Sweden would be allowed into EMU at all...

                                          Fuck Ringholm.

Anyway... saying that the *bigger* countries would get problems might be wrong... but what if one of the less powerful countries would get problems, would the *bigger* countries sacrifice their economy to save that country? Probably not.

That *less powerful* country would probably been doing better outside the EMU/Euro area.

I disagree. That's like saying that Alabama would probably be better off if it weren't part of the USA.

I don't know how the U.S economy works, but who knows if Alabama's economy would be better if it wasn't controlled by Washington D.C?

Alabama would be able to adjust their economy after their needs, not having to care about the other states' needs.

But I don't believe that you can compare a U.S state and a EU country the way DimageX did...

Are you sure the difference between 8.30 and 10.20 is only 8% ???

I would almost disagree. However, I would certainly disagree about the point made above concerning small countries being better outside of the system. It's surely far better to be part of a total system that combined has a lot of clout worldwide than to be a tiny and fairly insignificant country with no clout that the whole world ignores? Your voice as a country will be far louder in any kind of European system that it would be alone on the world stage.

I think that was part of the reason the EU (back then EEC) was created in the first place. That and free movement of labour, capital and goods.
