because everyone who has a .co.uk has first crack and up to five years to register it. so if its taken in .co.uk, its taken in .uk for at least the next five years.

They are reserved for current owners of .co.uk (and other UK extensions) for 5 years.
So try again in 2020 ![]() Amazon.co.uk has rights on amazon.uk And so on............ Its a nice short extension but its fucking annoying that a UK ADDRESS is compulsory. |

.uk should have been from the start, like the majority of countries who don't have the extension like a second level domain.
