Most porn is very poorly shot.

Resolution is only one of many factors that effect quality. Can people tell the difference? Where is this done ? Where people have been blind tested.

HD is still not on the Internet and wont be for some years to come. (real HD say at least 36 Mbit /sec) What is the point of having 10 times the data which is then thrown away? (or 1000 times?)

The lack of any real discussion on how films are lit, shot and edited shows the lack of
professionals here. Just people bragging about buying the latest gear.

Is it 3D 4K?

How is that different than what you are doing here right now? You are only sharp shooting the whole industries work here. What is it exactly that you are doing different? Besides 'read books' of course.

Could you try and explain in English what you are trying to say here.

"You are only sharp shooting the whole industries work here."

WTF do you mean?

It's all about 8K these days here in Area 51

I don't need to be an early adopter, I want producers to know exactly what they are doing before i move to 4k, but at the same time, i don't want to miss the boat.

I don't think you would be so much of an early adopter if you started now; because you can alway down convert the footage to 1080p or what ever file size you want for todays market and have the 4K for the customer that buys the 4k TVs and monitors tomorrow.

From a business prospective, if I had the capital and owned a content web based company, I would want everything shot in 4k and market 4K and all formats to my customers. Not so much because I think 4K alone will make the sales, (need quality content for that), but the more the surfer sees that you are branded as having quality 4K content, when they end up buying 4K monitors and TVs, they will be looking for anything 4K to watch.

Just think of the 1st companies that went HD. They all did pretty well.

h.265 will be to 4K as what h.264 is to HD as a web based delivery system.

As a producer its a pain in the ass and a few extra time consuming steps for editing and delivery, but as a company owner, I would want everything in 4k. As a company just be prepared to have the beefy systems to ingest and reformat this kind of content.

4K=Future proof

Phil, you got my cell number I will give you the honest and straight up break down on the pluses and minuses of 4K.

If I ever do shoot 4K, I'll have to shoot thru half/dozen filters to soften that shit
up a bit :1orglaugh

Try shooting shemales who grew up as farmers. :upsidedow Sometimes I wish everyone would have stayed in standard def. There is detail, and then there is too much detail.

For what it is worth, I have a pretty beefy system and I can't watch NaughtyAmerica's 4k videos, and my net won't even stream their trailer.

I can see the high end production going 4k for sure. But it's going to be a while before the rest of the world tosses their new HD cams and starts shooting home videos with 4k cameras.

PornDiscounts-V 06-16-2014 12:53 PM

But how do these videos look on tubes?

DeanCapture 06-22-2014 03:55 PM

LOL no thanks :winkwink:

There is still no real Standard Def on the internet.

It is just a trick to enlarge the resolution and reduce the contrast, luminance, colour, dynamic range....

SmutHammer 06-24-2014 09:41 AM

This thread brings me back to the days of 1080p, sounds like the exact same worries. Come on guys.. It's all in lighting and settings. We shoot pictures in higher rez than 4K video.

WTF? A lens is a piece of glass, pretty sure it can resolve at any pixel count.

I shoot everything at 4K, you can always step down an image, but you cannot make it bigger.

Sensors for larger formats are approaching the diffraction limit of real lenses, and it is more difficult to get high levels of aberration suppression for them. The point is that you cannot fully exploit the resolution potential of high-resolution sensors with regular mass-produced lenses. Plus lenses that are very long or wide consisting of complex lens arrangements.

A good principle in the days of analogue when there was quality loss at every stage of production, but when the digital format can be preserved with no loss what is the logic of recording vast amounts of data to be junked?

I am very interested in what people make and would love to see some great erotic work. I even go and buy DVDs, and watch what people put up.

Sadly most of it is shit. Badly made and with no real attempt at anything creative.

Blaming the viewer will not make your films any better.

Its called future proofing, you do understand that TV makers will double to 4K soon right? and in another 10 or so year to 16K. Its just how it tech goes.

Yes, that is why professionals buy/rent and use good quality lens.

Why don't you just google lens resolution and read up on the matter for yourself?

Talk to a lens techniction at the place professionals hire their lens from and ask them about lens that can resolve at 4K and 8K?

Present 2 K is being used in Cinemas at the moment with no probems, In cinemas 4 k will make a slight improvement in picture quality to those who seat near the screen. But for people who make product for domestic consumtion to talk about 4 K is just nonsense.

It is exactly like people who buy computers based on processor speed, it is not the only factor.

Thats why the film "Monsters" shot on a simple Sony HD EX3 camera with a low budget looks amazing and your film like a train wreck. Because he knows what he is doing and you don't.

ITC shooting in 4k now and getting ready for first release in late August. The shooting process hasn't changed at all but the post production is no picnic. I've had to invest in a couple of Mac pro 12 cores, 4k monitors, learn a whole new workflow and doing a ton of testing with various parameters. My old computers would have taken days to encode one video.

I remember when quiet was producing HUGE mpeg files (for 2002) and people were telling him he was wrong.

Amazing how still so few understand....

Yes, always two types of people.

Ones that complain about other people and can give you a million reasons why something cannot done or doesn't need to be done.

And ones that keep their heads down, just figure it out and keep moving forward...

Yes and they are usually the same ones always going broke. Times never change.

Still waiting on my Panasonic GH4 from BH Photo just built a new computer and can't wait to get some scenes shot!

sinclair 06-25-2014 09:24 AM

I've shot 5 projects to date in 4k using a RED (broadcast commercials). Love the footage...hate the workflow.

Got my two Panasonic GH4's a couple weeks ago and shot a short docu piece with them. Ended up downresing to 1080 and the footage is just amazing. Workflow is still a beast but I don't see myself renting a RED again anytime soon.

I'd venture to say 4k for 2k is fastly becoming the default standard until 4k TV's are more widespread.

It is not a matter of taking me seriously it is a matter of ideas.

The resolution of a picture is just one factor among many that effects the end quality of the picture.

Is it the most important problem at the moment? Are audiences coming out saying it was all blurry and out of focus? May be one of you films yes , but not in professional cinema, which is being shot on and projected on 2 K.

There are problems connected with the terrific compression that goes on, the banding in darkening shots, blocking on fast moving shots....If some increased data is going around - throw some at those problems.

There is a limit to the resolution to lenses and even the human eye. The improvements in quality become smaller and outweighed by the extra cost and problems created.

But you will make the camera marketing people very happy.

I would be really interested in seeing some well shot erotic films, maybe someone is here making them, I would really like to see them.

What we do you can see if you do what I did and buy our films.

You say you are great and award winning film maker.

I bought your film and watched it.

Sadly it is terrible.

I thought you left the industry? Got out of the biz? All the negative comments you've made over the last 6 months about the industry and content buyers ... I just thought you had moved on. Ya' know...washed your hands of it. No?
