Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free,
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature's gifts,
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page, let every stage,
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross,
We'll toil with hearts and hands,
To make this Commonwealth of ours,
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who've come across the seas,
We've boundless plains to share,
With courage let us all combine,
To Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

That comment is rather obscure. You can identify social trends and values within one or two days. After a month you have a pretty firm grasp of what the people and government is like. Time allows you to have more experience with things that happen yearly or by every decade.

You don't need to see each season to know how people are. But I have, and I think I have a firm understanding on how American people are.

spend month at Harlem, and you'll get another.

there is NO "typical america", not even in Hollywood movies,

I don't know, man. If one person has that much angst against an industry, there must be something to it. Besides, wouldn't he have had to join some adult sites to know what goes on behind that hypertext pointer known as "members" in order to complain about it?

I personally think he must be into something. I don't think Sadaam could be giving him that much of a hard-on.

I thought the Aussie nat'l anthem was "Waltzing Matilda"?

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled
"Who'll come a-waltzing, Matilda, with me?"

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll come a-waltzing, Matilda, with me
And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled,
"Who'll come a-waltzing, Matilda, with me?"

He boiled his billy...... man them aussies were tough in the old days.

Moron the Aussie national anthem....for those that just don't know anything......

Our National Anthem was the British Anthem "God Save the Queen". It was decided by those who know that it needed to be changed. Then they decided to have some sort of competition where the general public were to submit songs etc. Anyway apparently none were considered good enough. That left a choice between "Advance Australia Fair", "Waltzing Matilda" and "God Save the Queen"

This is of course quite ridiculous - a choice between three songs. Basically if you didn't like the Queen well then that left two. Hard Yakka if you didn't like any of them.

"Advance Australia Fair" was already a fairly popular song among Australians. So bear up you Aussies who don't like it, you will have to make the best of it - don't we always? Besides it is not that bad.

Many people thought that Waltzing Matilda should be our anthem, the trouble here is of course the words are about a Swagman - a jolly one - but never-the-less a Swagman who also steals sheep. Images Australia would not have a problem with that in fact it would suit Australia's quirky streak. No this does not mean we approve of stealing sheep - we just like the melody.

Perhaps we should have two anthems, then we judge the event and play the one most suitable for the occasion. Oh heck let's go for over-kill and play both of them they are both great songs. Imagine for instance the Olympic Games we would have the longest time, the audience would become rather restless - we might even be run out of town - but what do we care - hey we are doing them a favor it is not everyone who has two anthems. This is of course a little presumptuous assuming we will win a medal.

What about the Queen you ask - well we are all grown up now don't you know Oh yah!

:thumbsup

Come visit California. The people in San Diego are different from the people in Los Angeles. Los Angeles different from San Francisco. San Francisco different from Sacramento. Fuck man, that's one state!

In August of 2001 I moved cross-country to a state I've never been to. Talk about culture shock! I've lived in San Diego for 18 months and I'm still trying to figure the people out!

Oh well, I just must be stupid. All Iowans are exactly like Californians!
