    News Ukraine forces kill 100 Russian separatists

    Ukraine stepped up it's response, when Russian separatist attacked the airport in Donetsk with a few hundred armed thugs. The same armed thugs that wouldn't allow anyone in Donetsk to vote in the election. Ukraine govt responded by sending in attack helicopters and fighter jets killing more than 100 of the Russian separatists. Moscow has in turn sent 9k of the 40k troops sitting on the boarder home and more are packing up to go back to their bases.

    Looks pretty clear case of Putin caving to the international pressure leaving the separatists hung out to dry and now Kiev will be free to root out those remaining. Russia was successful at grabbing a bit of land, but has managed to further isolate it's self from the rest of the world and created a new enemy on their on their boarder. Well done..

      There should be headlines on the mainstream news saying "UKRAINE ARE KILLING THEIR OWN PEOPLE!!"

          it's terrorists, not separatists

          those aren't ukrainian people which want to separate, but ruskie citizens, paramilitary and former special forces of ruskie army. including chechens ruskie have had a war with a few years ago

              Well, by international law they fit the bill for a armed resistance or rebels. They wear uniforms and have a command structure. While yes I think they are just Russian thugs whom were put up to the task by Moscow, we can't just call everyone a terrorist because it gives govt's too much power. If you just call anyone a terrorist then next thing you know anyone that speaks out or protests will be a terrorists.

              Like it or not they fit the bill for insurgents, as they were attacking govt troops for the most part and not civilians. It was a classic armed rebellion which happened to be funded by Russia.

                      Ukraine forces will loose i can bet on that in long term. Sure they can use Jet's , Helicopters and etc..

                      They have no match for pro-russian rebels who are probably most Chechen fighters who are most brutal people in war. Those 100 rebels who are experience figher's can take army of 1000 Ukraine forces who are 18-20 years old which have no experience in war or whatsoever.

                          Putin has caved, you just don't see it yet (or wont admit it). It's pretty obvious that a backroom deal has been made. Putin will save face by saying he will respect the will of the people and their new president but we all know he's caved and realizes he can't push this further.

                          Putin has left those Russian separatists whom are probably a large number Russian troops, out to hang. Also I realize you want to be all wave the flag and all, but those 100 troops are dead. They didn't take out 1000 Ukraine forces.. They died and Ukraine didn't lose a single soldier..

                                  I doubt Putin will allow Ukraine to be run by the West, he's just realizing he has to focus more on covert than overt, like how the West took control of Ukraine in the first place.

                                              I don't see where these people have a hope in hell. It's a few hundred lightly armed men going up against an army with tanks and helicopters.

                                              The difference between "terrorists" and "separatists" depends on which side you are on.

                                              In this case I believe they are in fact separatists - they are trying to get a portion of the country to separate from Ukraine. Terrorists is when they attack the civilian population.

                                                      but judging by election results from previous years and what kind of support Yanukovich had, this area - east Ukraine doesnt support new ukrainian gov. at all....

                                                      so you would have to kill all the people who live there to get Ukraine united under new "peacefully elected" gov. from Kiev
