As you know every designer has their own style. Pay a small amount of money to several "designers" to have them submit to you their concepts. Have them also set up with the "carrot and stick", a completion bonus and a heavy penalty for missing various deadlines.
Never waiver from the penalty, regardless of the excuse.

There are a few left around who can handle anything without flaw, on time, and quite well.
The problem is finding reliable clients.

I have one who's going on a year now without making contact. Paid me $1500 of a $3500 project which has been completed and sitting here for 10 months. He's not responded to emails or phone calls. And the other vendors for this particular project have had the same issues.
I'm the only one who has all his content, along with all the license and ID paperwork. I'm considering putting the content to work to recoup.Comment

We have full-time designers, but as far as project based guys....1
in all these years I have 1 guy thats amazing design wise and technically, NEVER takes on more work than he can handle so as not to delay his clients and is extremely reasonable. We must throw him a couple thousand a month in side projects. He's the only steady one Ive ever found.
Once you find one...Treat them right. They are few and far between

Then shoot over a bland message like "I design"
or "hit me up" and assume (based on their word
alone) that they'll be hired on the spot and paid
a fortune.
That's a very important point pornguy. There's
nothing worse than a so-called designer who
just outsources everything on the cheap,
pockets all the profit and stamp's their name
on the finished product = lame.

Have never outsourced. Havent been around much though either.
I recently teamed up with a smart dude that is amazing at programming and web development. Way better than I ever have been. I have him working on a couple sites of mine while I do other things. Blowing my mind with his shit.
I shouldnt even mention the Forum he built from scratch thats retardedly innovative.
I and I doubt anyone here has seen the likes of the forum he built.
So, I guess... are you talking graphics or development?Comment

It's been challenging finding a reliable designer
who can produce work on par with what their
portfolio implies. We've gone through dozens
of candidates who don't meet the minimum
requirements, produce nothing even close to
what's in their samples and on top of that
demand 2003-era money. If there's still
anyone out there looking for steady work
