watched it late last night...good flick if you're into the genre, special effects were great imho :D

bronco67 05-17-2014 07:44 AM

I had three people tell me it was fucking awesome, except to be prepared for a slow build. That's fine with me, going today.

I thought Brian Cranston was really good, but after all the previews focusing on him I thought he'd be in it a lot longer. I thought it started off with so much promise but completely fizzled out...

That's exactly how I feel. Horrible story, lots of promise, Godzilla looked great, and then it fizzled out. At no time was I on the edge of my seat or even wondering what was going to happen next. It could have been a lot better. I mean, it's Godzilla, they should have pulled out all the stops and not filmed it unless they had an awesome story.

MrBottomTooth 05-17-2014 01:54 PM

Did they at least include the original godzilla theme song at some point? That was always the coolest tune.

I was really excited to see this after the trailers and first reviews on RT. I've heard mixed reviews but I'm still going to see it. Report back how it was.

hottoddy 05-17-2014 03:55 PM

Looks retarded. Perhaps it will be slightly better than the crappy Matthew Broderick version in 1998. Godzilla has a very special look, movement and charm. This just looks like "Giant Iguana Dinosaur Goes Fuckshit in City." This is just another CGI sploogefest.

bronco67 05-17-2014 07:46 PM

I actually liked how the big fights were teased at first, only letting you see a little bit here and there. The final fight was spectacular, and the crowd cheered a couple of times. I wasn't even bothered by the human story, which a lot of people seem to have a problem with. It moved along pretty nice and didn't feel like a 2 hour movie at all. I give it a solid B.

It was basically an old school Godzilla movie, like the 54 version -- except with top notch special effects.

DatingCamTube 05-18-2014 01:27 AM

I belive the remake of movies is generation related..... also cant wait to see the movie.

Emil 05-18-2014 03:14 AM

I love apocalyptic-movies, will watch it too. :)

Sid70 05-18-2014 06:51 AM

They just made Godzilla again a few years ago.

Then they "rebooted" Superman...just a couple of years after they had "rebooted" it before.

They "rebooted" Spiderman a couple of years after the latest Spiderman movie.

I love the original Godzilla movie. And yeah, I loved all those crazy and funny Japanese ones they made in the 1960's.

But if they are making a new Godzilla movie, or Spiderman, or Superman...why does it have to be a "reboot" everytime?

We all KNOW the origin stories. At least give us some new adventures.

Maybe in this movie they will say it's Godzilla rising up from the depths after being in a deep slumber for years.
But I doubt it.

They will probably "reboot" it and reconfigure the "origins" story...again. :(

I will tell you why. In the 70's movies studio were run by creative, they set the agenda and you got amazing movies. That never would of been made today. Now movie studios are run by marketing departments which is why they rehash the same shit over and over because they will have a base audience from only the name.

CaptainHowdy 05-18-2014 12:06 PM

It was as bad as the other Godzilla movies, so it was good ...

The trailer looked awesome, then on Friday night I saw the movie and was completely let down :(

Captain Kawaii 05-18-2014 05:28 PM

It sucks? Shocking! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Godzilla looks like a turtle, Cranston gave em 5 minutes but they made you think he was the star - the rest of the monsters look generic...wouldn't want to scare or offend anyone, god-fucking forbid that and the story is shit...lol. And Hollywood pimp accountants have your cash.

Godzilla is a franchise that lives in Tokyo. Hollywood sucks it,,,,,again.

Horny Dude 05-18-2014 06:49 PM

Man you guys saying it sucks ass must've been watching the movie on some Russian bootleg site with shitty sound.

This lived up to the hype IMO. There were some slow parts and I could care less about most of the characters, but man when Godzilla was on the screen that was at its best. The special effects were top notch and it even had that classic Godzilla feel to it when they were fighting. I totally give this movie a, 8.5 out of 10. Worth the cost of admission and the bowl of popcorn.

Drake 05-18-2014 06:53 PM

Will wait for it on Netflix

I seem to remember James Horner actually used it for a scene with the Momster beast in Aliens, as an aside....

Me I hope we are spared too many overly intellectual analyses about the monster. Though yes I see the "awakened nuclear" metaphor, at least in the first movies, there's for example this Daily Beast piece, which was cool, until this paragraph:

"That Godzilla has persisted for 60 years is a testament to the power of that allegory in processing the cognitive dissonance required by industrialized societies dealing with the tragic intersection of unprecedented scientific advancement and lingering ethnic supremacism."

I mean, ferfucksake...

Saw it last nite. KILLER Movie!

I loved it and was thoroughly entertained. The opening sequence kicked ass, quite a bit of character dev then a killer killer finale.

MediaGuy 05-19-2014 12:09 PM

One hunnerd giant radioactive killer dinosaurs!

:d

chaze 05-19-2014 12:16 PM

Can't wait, but I also can't decide if it should be in 3d imax or just imax.

hdkiller 05-19-2014 12:55 PM

My friends said it's not worth to watch in cinema.. I don't know if it's true or not

brassmonkey 05-19-2014 12:56 PM

Shit man I just saw this SORRY!

I packed it all up after the divorce and gave everything (at that time) to my son. It's all in Vegas now with them. Rhonda and Smiley have seen the collection though. When Rhonda came over and showed her the full wall of stuff, she said "Oh god Sean..." - I said no RhoHo - Godzilla :1orglaugh

SiMpLe 05-19-2014 05:06 PM

I have seen it and it's a good example of a old school Godzilla movie. The director did a great job giving this movie it's own look and feel too. Not like that crap with Matthew Broderick. I don't even count that movie as a Godzilla flick. I read last night on Reddit that they are already planning #2.

Ladyboy Inc. 05-19-2014 07:33 PM

Didn't like it.

If I remember correctly James Horner "quoted" the Godzilla theme during the encounter between Ripley and the Mama Alien in Aliens...

And they have to, unless bullshit legal crap cuts fan-fun...

:D
