Any Raspberry Pi tinkerers?

What's your build?

I put together a simple little XBMC build. Adding IR send/rcv, momentary-push button boot and shut down, control for 50 ws2801 addressable RGB LEDs mounted around rear of tv to do Hyperion effect for music and visualization. As well,. when watching cartoons, LED overextends "effect" of screen onto the wall and follows the colors. I would never enable that on regular movies though, would be distracting.

see below for example of Hyperion

Note: NOT my video - just an example

Contemplating another Pi to control household venting fans and IR controlled air conditioner using inside vs outside temp with humidity being factored. May be possible to use same unit from XBMC built with just a python script running in background... dunno.

As well, another special little project (for a friend, and my own curiosity). Second device to 100% voice control the XBMC instance, any visible or non-visible IR device, door locks, lights and any specific receptacle but also have that device reachable via any browser to control them without use of voice, if need be. Home, or away.

I've only got a mere 5% of the parts needed for all this yet and I'm already addicted lol Too bad china shipping takes 4-6 weeks....

and already thinking of a golf cart battery-powered boombox with little 6" touch screen for beach parties loaded with my entire music collection, usb for people's thumb drives and BT streaming from anyone's cells, infinity speakers in transmission line-style (think: Bose Wave Radio innards) enclosure heh

Addicting... the components for building these things are so dirt cheap now..

very cool video dude never saw this before. I use my rasp for xbcm (raspbmc) together with a samsung tv. It's quite cool i only need one remote control, and everything is handled by CEC. Good i had the whole flat covered with ethernet so there is no issue to play fullhd stuff aswell, i like this small boards. I use aswell 2 other pi's connected on several uplinks for monitoring my tube (httpd, services etc), works perfect and i don't have to pay additional fees for external monitoring services.

If you are looking for something more powerfull i can recommend the Cubox-I2 it's aswell a very cool gadget to waste some time with

Just google for CuBox-i2 you should found some online shops to grab one

Did my post inspire this?

Pis have a large community, which means good documentation and knowledge.

There is a flood of newer boards coming out with much more powerful processors.

I expect in 1-2 years a quad core board with 2-4 GB of ram will be around for $50 or so base price.
Problem is some people buy them up in bulk and resale for higher. ):

You should, they're made in the country you reside in... at least I think you reside there.

The Pi is awesome! I have 2 running OpenELEC. One in the livingroom and one in our spare bedroom. The one in the second bedroom is accessing the same library and DB. So you can pick up in one room where you left off in the other.

If I'm not mistaken, the ones with the blue headphone jacks are UK-made and the ones with black headphone jacks are China-made.

I was looking at the Cubox, seems cool. Though, I was turned off by the fact it's already in a case and in square format haha

I'm going to end up picking up a 3d printer either this fall or for my xmas gift to myself later on in year. I wanna make some custom cases to house all my addons and the rpi in one unit.

Here's the addressable LEDs I decided to go with

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/121159316753

If you want them, try the "make offer" button. I offered 25 and he took it.

Looks like an interesting board. Lots of connectivity. Though, slow CPU

Haven't tinkered with it yet, but would pay somebody to build me one of these.
It's a ripper machine, most parts 3D printed, running Rasberry Pi
