what a little prick Mr Popup is. Nice job on the ticker. As long as he's not going to start selling ads on it, it's a good thing for GFY. Hell, he should make a little deal with Gorny on it so it could have sponsor ads/links on it.

galleryseek 03-07-2003 04:38 PM

if lensman actually gets mad about it, how about adding code in the program to scroll ad's across the bottom in text form?

Yup...and once again Lensman loses control over his brand

Read the DMCA

It is theft. Blame your Government.

Don't you have some conspiracy over in Lower Slobovia to dig up?

goBigtime 03-07-2003 04:43 PM

You know whats funny.. this whole thread just gave me an idea for a project (that whoever wants it can take it) that would be a little borderline scandalous... though I think if the forum admins were smart they would embrace it, since, ultimately it would mean more impressions.

But someone should make a ticker program like this and have it stream headlines for ALL of the active forums, ie GFY, Oprano, PornIsBad.. I'm sure there are more that are pretty active.

Then of course, you could run your little button banner at the top (AOL AIM client style) & generate a little money off selling the ads or something.

:1orglaugh... so who wants to bet on how many of these forum streamers will pop up now?

He's not even got the DMCA right. Several sites, Free Republic being the most notorious, have won or settled lawsuits allowing them to reproduce content under 'fair use' provisions.

In the case of FR, all of their content comes from articles reproduced.. without the ads.. from the big 3 news sites.

Whatever........ im sure the kid who designed the app and lensman have lots of time to settle it in court.

When you start talking about webmasters using this app to save time (meaning save money) it becomes clear that this application is commercial in nature regardless if it is sold or not.

Its called respect for Intellectual Property. Sorry you can't comprehend THAT but it happens to be the foundation of this business.

I'll listen to a lawyer before I'll listen to a guy with a CS degree. Aren't they giving those away now?

I'm not anyone's counsel bub. Why dont you show me some of your sites so i can start using your content in an unauthorized way?

<sigh>

Just a guess but I bet the people that use this actually see MORE ads. I know I only check the first page on GFY. If I see topics scrolling I am interested in I am more likely to end up here. :2 cents:

gothweb 03-07-2003 05:29 PM

It isn't illegal to build such software. It's illegal not to take it down if Adult.com decide they don't like it. Since I don't see Lensman complaining, I think you can probably calm down.

That has to be the dumbest thing I have seen all day.

:1orglaugh

If you build something that saves someone time therefore saving them money you can give it away and it's still commercial..

So let's see. According to MrPopup, everytime I post here, it becomes content on GFY and is therefore the intellectual property of GFY. I don't remember being presented Terms and Conditions at signup saying that by posting here, my thoughts/opinions/questions will no longer be my intellectual property.

Also, he proceeded to libel Ludedude as a theif, and threaten to steal content off of many of our sites.

At the same time, by posting an excerpt of the DMCA from someone else's site, he was therefore stealing intellectual property from that site, who was in turn stealing intellectual property from the writers of the DMCA.

I'm confused now.

I'm not so sure about that bro. We did agree to Terms and Conditions. God knows what could have been in there. But I do believe that by posting here we do give Adult.com some, if not all, rights to our words.

Already working on it, but making damn sure the sites get the traffic, ad views, etc. they deserve, which is why it's taking a while to do. Have to do it right. :)
