What's important in 2014? Is it still links, social, great content or site age? Maybe it's something else entirely.

This is for adult sites only, we all know it's a damn site fucking easier to rank a mainstream site.

Anyone with a site over a year old but less than 3 ranking well consistently in Google for highly popular keyword phrases want to share their thoughts?

only difference is the censoring of the results for search terms which don't have the clear 'porn' word in it.

And mainstream easier? If you have millions of dollars as budget, yes it's easy. If not, go try and beat youtube, amazon, tesco, bestbuy, etc. I wish you luck.
There's a reason they are always on top - the higher your budget, the higher you get. Just having a 'well made site for users' like Matt 'the bullshitter' Cutts says doesn't cut it anymore.

As far as mainstream being easier. Well I don't know, obviously for something like insurance you are going to struggle but a few years ago I did well with

I was ranked p1 for both these terms for over a year until I sold the sites, both sites used wordpress and autoupdated using rss feeds.

Anyway, forget it. Dumbass me thinking there had been a lot of changes to the alogorithm over the last few years and thinking webmasters might want to discuss it.

Well, it's all the same according to Google, for adult and non adult. On a my generic men's magazine blog I ranked on the first page for 'wolf of wall street xxx parody', without even trying to. I think since I've posted, I've slipped down to 11th spot, but ultimately ranking depends not only on what you do yourself but what others do as well to place in the same spots.

So it's all the same at the end of the day, imo.

You should start with adding the google PPC (Port Plug Code) Dev 2.3 to the headers of your site. This tells the Google bot to give your site higher priority.

I prefer to peddle tits and ass. Previously when I was doing mainstream I was using adsense but earned a fraction of what I do in adult.

1) start a tube with thousands of pirated or licensed full length videos to keep your bounce rate low and time on site and natural social sharing high.

2) have seo teams building and buying thousands of high quality links all day every day.

3) expect your work and effort and money to be whacked randomly and probably permanently by random updates as google flails around trying to combat web spam and as they slowly push adult sites out of the index.

4) shoot for a term that has no traffic and no one looks for.
