Let me ask a question: Sure, everyone is allowed to own a gun, and sure, everyone here on GFY will use it to target practice or in self defence only. Everyone on GFY passes a background check, etc etc. Everyone is a law abiding citizen and you deserve to own a gun if you want one. CHECK.

So now then, why not pass a law, to keep guns out of the hands of criminals? Of crazy people? Why not make it illegal to carry a gun into a school? Or a bar? Do you not think that this is going too far?

When you start talking to real pro-gun folks about why their right to own assault rifles & whatnot is so important, 99% of the time it comes out that they have this juvenile fantasy of being the last bastion of Freedom & Liberty for this hazy future time when the big bad gubmint truly decides to take over. They really feel it's a plausible scenario that they and other gun owners will band together into like an effective resistance force to protect fellow citizens from the Feds or the US Army or the One World Government i.e. UN.

In most places, it is illegal to carry a gun in schools. Colorado for instance, you're not allowed to do that there. Can't carry them in movie theaters either. Clearly passing such laws has helped eliminate shootings in CO schools and theaters....Right?

well since all illegal guns start out as legal guns at some point you could argue that the less legal guns, the less illegal guns there would be. this is what happens in canada. its so hard to get access to the crazy kind of semi auto guns that are readily available in the US so they get smuggled in and sold to criminals. if they were as hard to get in the US as they were here in canada, chances are there would be a lot less out there to be smuggled.

Ya they make getting handguns and other restricted guns in Canada such a horrible process that almost no one bothers to go through the hassle. If I were to go through the process of acquiring a handgun I still wouldn't be able to legally fire it on my own farm land....I have to go to a gun club. Oddly enough the criminals dont seem to have a problem using them outside of the gun club. Lol
