linode offering SSD VPS packages that rival DigitalOcean now

Linode just upgraded their VPS to SSD apparently, and are offering slightly better specs than digitalocean for the price point

    https://www.linode.com/pricing

if you run VPS', or need one, really can't go wrong IMO

are they fine with porn content?
do they offer it in Europe?

and why is disproportion in network IN/OUT so big 40 Gbps comapred to "only" 1000 Mbps (about 1Gbps)?

      EDIT:
      - Saw that they offer UK/London... Not bad but still prefer NL...

Do you know of any promotion codes that work? I can't find any credible ones via google search.

so you think offering $20/mo is competing with $5/mo ?

          misleading thread title.

linode don't have $5 and $10 plans but from $20 onwards their plans are almost a straight clone of digitalocean's. Price, RAM and core count identical.

Yeah I only need a VPS by the month...I already use Ramnode though and they have been amazing! Nick keeps a tight ship and offers great unmanaged ssd vpses at an affordable price.

With Ramnode this is what I have for only $26/quarterly:

                1024MB RAM
                1024MB VSwap
                4 CPU Core Access
                60GB SSD Space
                1Gbps Port
                3000GB Bandwidth
                1 IPv4 Address (+1 FREE)
                16 IPv6 Addresses
                Automated Weekly Backups
                TUN/TAP

They also have DDoS protected IPs for an extra $3/month

You get what you pay for. Digital Ocean is fine for development but I wouldn't put any live sites there. You can use Linode for live sites without worrying too much. In fact, Linode has better uptime than any of my dedicated boxes.

Linode leaks passwords and Digital Ocean doesn't.

yea i've heard the rumors that DO isn't good for production, but haven't had any problems with my live sites with them (knock on wood). Over the past 6 months, I'd say my vps' on NYC2 have had like 3-4hrs downtime, and that was from pre-planned hardware upgrades during the middle of the night.

the new linode packages are just slightly better (just get more HD space it looks like), so I thought this might be helpful to anyone looking for NEW vps'

It's cheap for SSD but both Linode and Digital Ocean seem to lack a lot of customization. What if I need 300 GB diskspace and don't really need or want SSD for a project and am just fine on a dual core setup with 4 GB? To get what I need for disk space I'd have to pay $160 a month and the 8 cores and 16 GB would be a waste and overkill for the project.

Or do they have more customization options they aren't showing?

You don't like my posts? Put me on ignore or fuck right off. I'll say what I want.

this, is why DO and linode like services arent great for all projects.

2tb hdd , 2gb ram , 2 core cpu. they dont have such customization yet.
