What is stopping you from switching to Linux COMPLETELY?

Or any other desktop operating system other than windows for that matter....

Every time i do a new system format and cleaning I ponder whether or not to start fresh with Red Hat Linux.

I usually things start out well but there is always some tiny little blip (like the fact i can never get Mozilla to process plugins properly no matter how much I follow instructions...)

Eventually I revert back to Windows for a few tasks and whamo...back to square 1.

Anyone else? How do you finally let go of the Microsoft tittie?

I didn't. It's stable and relatively good for now. I think it's still the best option... unless you're a geek

The only things stopping me are a few Windows programs I want to use, like Photoshop. Although, Linux does have the Gimp which is a very powerful graphics tool. When that gets a developed a little further, I may not need Photoshop any more. Other than that, I use Windows mainly to play games.

Mozilla + plugins = AARRGGHH!!!! ("Click me *CRASH*")

I use Linux for programming, Windows for surfing/games. Neither handles the part of the other well, so that makes it kinda easy to decide.

thats the kinda shit im excited about. Film Gimp (recent renamed CinePaint)

Also, the linux community is thriving and supported on the Ps2 by Sony. This has the most potential for moving people over to linux...

Excuse me? I guess chargebacks were high today.

How about anyone who wants to keep an eye on the future of digital technology?

Anyone who wants to be broke in 5 years ignores the progress of technology.

Linux needs more corporate backing for dev'ing it as a real windows competitor... that would include doing what Apple is not doing enough. This means getting more support and dev done that rivals windows... meaning more games, more software, more of everything, and dont stop.

If you go to stores like BestBuy or CompUSA, Apple shit is shoved to a tiny corner, and PC owns the rest, and good luck with all the great linux selection.

My required software binds me to Windows. And no, you can't emulate everything, even if you could, the speed would be much less anyway. So whats the use.

We use windows on our desktops since 95% of our customers use windows. We want to experience our sites in a manner that is as similiar to our customers as possible.

Linux supporters at the moment are like people who think having a long flash intro on a site is a good thing.

Its great for hosting, but until it can offer what windows offers, theres no reason to switch as a desktop.

let's see ....

1) MS owns the desktop, hence I'm BG's bitch...
2) I don't like the UI as much as MS
3) Hardware and software compatibility

Agreed but this is a huge waste of resources to be using multiple computers , multiple environments, etc.

lol: no you dont. evolution takes care of that.
Just keep your eyes open and let other fuck around.

Anyway: the main 2 reasons for not being on a linux desktop:

1. 90% of my clients (yes.. the surfers) are on windows.
And if you want to ask me "what's that got to do with it"..
figure it out for yourself.

2. i dont have TIME to fuck around. Believe it or not: windows
is a decent and stable operating system supported by
the commercial side of everything and that's ALL you need.
It does EVERYTHING you would like to accomplish client-side during your daily tasks. Without a hassle. Really.

Believe it or not: unless (like apple did) unix is integrated
in some commercial OS there's no reason to spend time
investigating the possibilities of a linux desktop unless
youre a geek.

Linux is NOT the future.

The difference between now and 1977 is that there currently
IS a stable and good environment (called windows) available
_and used_ by the masses.

Do you have ANY idea what impact a simple upgrade
from win98 to win2k means?
There is NO fucking way people will switch to unix, mac
or whatever OS in the forseeable future. REALLY.

lol.. but let's make a deal:

if your predictions are right and 5 or 7 years from now
im sitting here with my Win2007 and CANT do shit,
totally lost and without income and wondering
what my wife is talking about with her 'Linux stuff':

i'll call you and make you an offer to swap your burger contract
for a job at my office. I'll even raise your salary with 30%.

The fact that I run FreeBSD 97% of the time and the other 3%
is checking html placement in win98/IE.

I'm not sure I ever asked that question...but like other small minded people you just made assumptions.

I was asking one user of one operating system his opinions about the benefits of one operating system over another.

If you would like me to spell this out in Macaroni Pasta Letters I can have my attorney do it for you. I dont have the time to waste it on inconseqeuential stalkers.

You know, they've made new digital cameras since 1996.

Actually no we are talking everyday use.

KDE, Star Office, Gimp, and you name it ... Freebsd does a much better job handling the math processes and multi processing going on in large spread sheets and such.

But since you mention hosting yes it rocks there too.

If you would like me to spell this out in Macaroni Pasta Letters I can have my attorney do it for you. I dont have the time to waste it on inconseqeuential stalkers.
No worries, newbie, I am not stalking you at all. If you are Canadian, I should remind you we don't have attorney's here, we have lawyers, both of which I KNOW you can't afford. Now go read Plesk for Dummies.
