    You favorite food?

    In an hour or so I'm going to the grocery store to get food for tonight. I'm very hungry right now, haven't eaten all day long (was working).

    Now, since I am obviously in the mood for a royal feast, I am asking for advice on what to eat - what's your favorite food?

    So far, I have several ideas:

    Hamburgers (there's a fast food business over here that makes burgers the size of about 6 big macs), combined with RAS patat (like french fries, but 10 times better) and some kroketten (crunchy thingies with meat inside).

    OR

    A huge home-made pizza (normally feeds 3). Nice things on it like mozzarella, capers, chorizo, fresh tomatoes, fresh basil, mushrooms, etc.

    OR

    A french bread with roast beef and italian salad. Simple, but good.

    OR

    Shawarma - Spicy strips of marinated beef served in warm pita bread combined with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions, greek olives, pepperoncini, etc.

    OR

    A huge steak, ciabatta, italian salad.

    OR

    ...

      They had a burger eating contest early this morning on the radio, live from a local burger shop. 12 big hulking brutes squared off to eat as many burgers as possible in about 90 minutes. The prize: a trip for two to see AC-DC live in a New York City nightclub next week.

                                                                      fresh fruit is about the only thing i love that is healthy. Oh, i love salads but I drown it with dressing with enough sodium and other bad shit to melt an icey sidewalk. I've tried the oil and vinegar, vinagrettes, nah i love my dressings too much.

The problem I have with it is that there is no restaraunt in the world that makes Lasagna, spagetti-and-meatsauce, or spagetti-and-meatballs as good as me.... and it takes hours for me to make it the way I like it.                                                                                               Winnipeg has a HUGE Italian community, lots of great restaraunts, but if I order anything that I can make myself... I usually don't feel that I got a good meal.

                                                                                                          Fried Halloumi: Click halloumi cheese relatively thick, pan-fry in strong olive oil.

                                                                                                          Main meal:

                                                                                                          Mediterranean Chicken: Marinate large chunks of chicken in olive oil and a little lime juice, with salt, pepper, lots of marjoram, chives, oregano, nutmeg, minced garlic, coriander. Fry in a very hot pan with some chopped red onions.

                                                                                                          Sauce:

                                                                                                          Pseudo-tsatziki: Greek yogurt, chopped cucumber, dill, garlic, olive oil, a drop of lime juice, salt.

                                                                                                          There are two ways to enjoy this. You can have it with flavoured rice (bioled in chicken stock, add salt, butter, garlic, pepper). Alternately, put the chicken, onions, and tsatziki inside warm pita bread.

                                                                                                          This is great with fresh mango juice, or your favourite cold drink.
