Congressman (D) says he is underpaid

    Thoughts?

"I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid,? Moran said.

Which CEO? Many make very little and are paid based on performance.

I would not object to public servants being paid based on performance at all.

something tells me that would work poorly

i was mostly joking about the percentage increases over the average worker.. so if some ceos out there are getting 1700% percent more than the average worker.. you could say the government deserves the same!

If they actually worked 365 days a year thats $476 a day.. More than enough.. But considering they only worked 113 last year that's $1540 a day. Overpaid if you ask me.

Have to remember, once they leave office, they still get paid.
More millionaires in congress than you might think
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
                  think about that

Lemme see, the pay is $174k, so what does it cost to get elected (under the status quo)?

The average price of winning or holding on to a six-year term in the U.S. Senate averaged $10,476,451 in the 2012 election cycle.

Slightly less pricey, obtaining or being re-elected to the U.S. House of Representatives cost an average of $1,689,580.

In effect, that means that the winning Senate candidates needed to raise an average of $14,351 every day between Jan. 1 2010 and election day, 2012 in order to pull of a win, while the victorious House members raised $2.315 per day.

?They?re spending more of their time fundraising than making actual laws,? MapLight President Daniel Newman told the Daily News. ?They?ve become high priced telemarketers.?
                    2008 Stats:

In 93 percent of House of Representatives races, and 94 percent of Senate races that had been decided by mid-day Nov. 5, the candidate who spent the most money ended up winning, according to a post-election analysis by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. The findings are based on candidates' spending through Oct. 15, as reported to the Federal Election Commission.

Continuing a trend seen election cycle after election cycle, the biggest spender was victorious in 397 of 426 decided House races and 30 of 32 settled Senate races. On Election Day 2006, top spenders won 94 percent of House races and 73 percent of Senate races. In 2004, 98 percent of House seats went to the biggest spender, as did 88 percent of Senate seats.
In light of the SCOTUS Citizens United ruling, which eliminated campaign reform laws designed to ensure that elections are not unduly influenced by wealthy individuals and special interest groups, and the most recent McCutcheon decision by the Supreme Court to further gut election campaign finance reform, I believe it is important to support publicly financed elections, with a level playing field for getting out the message/vote.

The amount they get paid, isn't why they are millionaires. To be far, most are usually well off already, but if they are t they will be by the time they leave. They have access to insider information and they made the rules so they can act on that information via the stock market.

Meaning if they know a company is going to get a big contract or funding from the govt, they can buy stock before anyone else knows about it. They have the ability to print their own money with this..
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

If they had to follow insider trading laws like citizens do, far too many of them would be in jail. There have been many many news programs straight out calling out Congressman for insider trading, and proving it, yet nothing can be done.

If they want to play the game, fine, so be it. How dare they bitch about not getting enough perks. Know when to stop holding out greedy hands, just might get chopped off.

                                          They shouldn't get paid ANYTHING.

They should all have to keep their "real job" (most of them are attorneys and have working law practices anyway)

If a person wants to be a public "servant" then that's what it really should be.

It wasn't meant to be a full-time job. They should only be in Washington D.C. to vote for a few important things each year. Instead they are there all their lives making new laws every goddamned day to prove how much they are doing.

Well one thing you have to look at.. even though they are only in congress 3 days a week, it's not like they are sitting by the pool the other 4 days. They are still out doing shit be it if they have to fly back to their own states or what ever. So it's a little unfair when people say they only worked X amount of days, but they damn sure shouldn't bitch about the pay or the benefits..

Granted a good part of that is them doing fund raising for their next campaign.
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

They make a lot less than MP's in most of the European countries, but keep in consideration that "corruption" funding is legal in the US, so at the end of the day, their making a lot more.

Not even the slightest hint of a connection between what a PRIVATE corporation pays people, and what a PUBLIC SERVANT is given off the government teat.

CEO pay comes from a companies profit, Congress gets paid from taxes taken from people

                                                  Good post OldJeff.

                                                  I agree 100%.
Little by little over the decades the "public servants" have become the RULING class.

I couldn't believe that people were cheering on Obama giving Federal employees a raise in the minimum wage!
It's like living in "bizarro world" where people are cheering and screaming: "Yes! We are in 17 trillion dollars debt! Please take MORE of my money and give it to public 'servants'!"

They should all have to keep their "real job" (most of them are attorneys and have working law practices anyway)

If a person wants to be a public "servant" then that's what it really should be.

It wasn't meant to be a full-time job. They should only be in Washington D.C. to vote for a few important things each year. Instead they are there all their lives making new laws every goddamned day to prove how much they are doing.

if it costs 10m$ to get elected then you pretty much have to be corrupt to pay off the campaign money, let alone make bank...from that perspective 1500$ per day is not much LOL...wanna do politics? get ready to get dirty LOL
