Mining would be probably best bet. Since they reach their low's price.

I don't really do stocks - especially not "long term / for retirement"

I do however enjoy bonds, which while they involve tying up your cash for extended periods of time, are also guaranteed to produce a modest, risk free return on the investment.

Retirement? Openup an IRA, preferably a Roth. Then make sure you have an index fund (or funds) in your portfolio.

Good call...... but which ones?

Ive always liked low cost Yamana Gold (AUY) but what else do you recommend? A lot of people think there's could be a junior miner boom as its easier for the big players to acquire a junior who's renovated a new mine and got it ready than to dig it out themselves especially when gold prices are relatively low.

Id stay well away from Facebook esp with a P/E around 100 - I think this market is a bubble and when it comes tumbling down, Facebook is one of the first to get hit.

IRA's are ok if you have a lower income as you can only invest 5k annually tax deferred. If you can and are incorporated a 401k is the way to go. You can contribute up to 50k I think in personal and company matched funds.

I have some BP and ConAgra. For the dividends.

Mining stocks - I am looking at BBL/BHP - I am waiting until the end of the year. See if the Fed actually stops buying bonds and will let interest rates rise a little.

How do you invest in bonds CurrentlySober? Do you buy treasuries?

I have some in Vanguard VBMFX(Total Bond Index Fund), very little in MFL (Blackrock Municipal Fund) and MMT (MFS Multimarket Income Trust).

Depends on the exact (ish) kind of time frame. If you'd invested in Kodak and Polaroid back in the day and kept them for the rest of your life, you would have been wiped out.

TBH, I'm not exactly that sure of the terminology, but (all I cant afford BS aside) I have a personal independent financial advisor who deals with my money for me....

EXAMPLE BOND

However, (Despite my simple and easy choice as an example) I go a LOT higher in cash value, over a LOT longer term, with a LOT higher interest rate, than the example above. i'm happy to tie up a few hundred thousand for a period of ten years or more... So I get a pretty good deal....

Sorry if this doesn't really explain things... (I'm pornographer - Not a stockbroker) but it IS an honest answer

I don't like junior because they don't have enough cash flow if gold prices will continue to drop. I like big one's which like Newmont or Barrick.

STON (Stonemor Partners)

they run funeral homes, cemeteries, etc... with aging population, ton of people will start dieing over the next 10-20 years + they have been consistently paying ~10% dividend for years...

it's not as glamorous as apple or facebook or whatever, you aren't going to double your money in 6 months, but if you are patient it's a relatively safe investment with pretty big upside potential...

I like the Juniors in gold/silver as falling prices can open a bigger window for acquisition especially if the junior has at least one or two productive mines in operation. I watch the bigger names like Barrick and Newmont too.

Well worth to take a look at Yamana (AUY). Its approx $7bn market cap so not too small with profitable mines. They've got a big exposure to south America ie less stable regions but have very low cash costs as a result of that and can stay profitable even with gold at $1000/oz -plus they're expecting over 15% production ramp up this year with some new mines going live. I bought this one at $9.50 and sold at $18 (almost a double) couple years back.

Its now back at under $9 - superb entry point if you think gold is going up from here.

Cool. Sounds like savings bonds like here in the US. Federal government debt.

I could be already retired in two years since this post, if I just only had still the same amount I bought at the beggining:
https://gfy.com/showpost.php?p=18674751&postcount=29
its more then 4000 percent gainer since that post and it could go as high as 60 bucks sometimes this year.
