The battery factory is the equivalent of of Ford or GM building engine factories. Expensive no matter how you look at it.

I get he's great and all but the hyperbole in OP's post was hilarious.

"Blows away Jobs and Gates"

Maybe in 10 years IF Tesla really gets off the ground and becomes affordable to the mainstream.(I understand that's what he's trying to do with the new factory)

Also, don't forget that the current auto giants are all each doing R&D and actually producing shit much cooler than shitty ol' electric batteries(BMW w/ Hydrogen, etc.) So the future of Tesla is a lot more tenuous than it may currently seem.

As far as SpaceX, fuck if I have any idea how that will turn out, hopefully well, but who knows what will happen in the next few years.

So?

They're the third state to ban direct sales, Arizona and Texas already have the ban.

It's an outdated business model that needs to be replaced

There's a lot at stake here, it's not going to be a breeze in the park :)

Are they fighting back? Sure they are! but just because you win a battle does not mean you will win the war. He'll have on hell of a battle on his hands with this one but it's going to be interesting watching it play out!

It's fucking outstanding!

That level of investment is exactly what battery technology has needed for over a decade!

When they make significant advancements it's going to be fantastic news for a whole range of industries, especially the energy storage industry!

But Musk doesn't care. He's trying to achieve something, which is basically getting the ball rolling for affordable electric cars.

He was a hardcore programmer. Then cashed in on the precursor to paypal.

He is very hands on, and understands the physics behind everything they are building.
Elon Musk is a genius.

Ty, saved me a post. :thumbsup

Once he gets the cost to about $52,000 I see him switching to something else and letting the minions do the rest. What is coming up?

Ford spent his ENTIRE life working on his car. Rockefeller spent his entire life working on his oil empire. Gates spent his entire life working for Microsoft.

Elon Musk will spend about 2 years playing with electric cars before he moves onto something else. He already revolutionized online payments with PayPal. He didn't stick around to fuck with it. He moved on to revolutionize the rocket industry.

How many Bitcoin he own?

Does anyone realky think a 100 year old nearly trillion dollar oil industry is going to allow Musk to succeed?

I live in California and see multiple people driving Tesla's every single day.

LOL!!! What an oil-sucking fat fuck Chris Christie is. This guy has to be the dumbest "smart" guy in politics. His career is already in the shitter and now he's going to ban Tesla from New Jersey, a place that smells like exhaust 24/7.

What's next? He'll ban Apple?

Mr Tough Guy needs to be a forward thinker if he ever hopes to become president. The only thing that will happen thanks to his ban is that people will go out of state to buy one, or just buy one online.

I bet anything that now more people in New Jersey will buy Tesla's because of this ban.

If?

In May 2013, Tesla became the best selling EV in America. 90% of the cars were sold with Supercharging built in. And in 2014, Tesla sold more cars than Ford in Norway. They sold 22,450 cars in 2013 and expect to sell 35,000 in 2014 now that they can sell to China. Also their stock price grew from about $50 in April 2013 to $212.22 in March 2014. Id' say Tesla is already off the ground.. !

Sounds to me like they are (a) just playing catch-up (GM, BMW, Mitsubishi etc now have electric cars). Hydrogen isn't cool. While it gets good milage, it's expensive to make, dangerous to transport, dangerous to store, requires a very big tank, and the infrastructure to transport it is extremely limited. Electric cars however can be plugged at home.

SpaceX sells space launch services to NASA as well as private companies for carrying astronauts and cargo into earth orbit and to the International Space Station. Their customers are Orbcomm, MDA, Nasa, SES, AsiaSAT and others. In 2014 they have 12 launches from Cape Canaveral for Nasa, Falcon, Asiasat and even the Airforce. They are booked for missions right through to 2018 so I think they will be just fine too.
