Rush has a lot of fans for a reason. They're one of those bands that kept picking up fans over the years even with changing styles and rarely lost one. They're not one of my favorite bands but I really like their music and respect the hell out of them. I had "Moving Pictures" on cassette when it was new. That's just one of their best albums.

Yes, they are now - as of last year. Many years too late. Especially for a band that:

Over the course of their career, Rush has released 24 gold records and 14 platinum records (3 of which have gone multi-platinum) placing them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band.

The fact that Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, five years before Rush, should tell you what an abomination that institution is.

Rush has like 3-4 "phases". My fave is the Seventies Rush. "2112" is the big record from that era (for me) but basically anything they did between '74-'82 is their 'Golden Era".

After that they got into keyboards in the '80's/'90's. Then they dropped out for almost a decade while drummer Neil Peart dealt with the death of his wife and daughter (I think - lost touch with Rush around this time). Now they are back and still rocking it.

Fuck man, just crank 'Limelight', "Tom Sawyer' and "The Necromancer" (or "Xanadu") and you'll get it. :D

Very cool that you interviewed them. I usually subscribe to the don't meet your heroes credo these days though. Are they as awesome an interview as you'd want them to be?

I stopped listening to Voivod after they toured with Soundgarden warming up. Soundgarden never really put out an album that matched their live performance on that tour, but they so blew Voivod off the stage that I always thought of that when I heard them after. Not that either band is remotely near Rush in my personal pantheon.

I saw them live once and like a few songs, but a tune from Rush is never, ever one you will catch me humming. They are technically incredible, but I just don't find their music memorable.
