Everyone at my company all work from their homes (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver). It's cheap and comfortable for sure but home life can be distracting sometimes. Then again I get to work late without being yelled at, play with my kitties, and crank the Heavy Metal to 11.Comment

If you have a family, or friends that come by there are many disadvantages to working from home. It's much more productive to be at an office where the only reason your there is to work.Comment

I work from home.
The worst part of it is throwing a roast in the crockpot and then having to smell it all day.
2nd would be, people who stop by to say "hi" because they think working from home means I really don't work. Something I did to fix that was, when someone stops by I just put my phone up to my ear and mouth "im on a conference call, call you later"
Biggest pros would be no commute which means more money and time. Although after lunch every day I do run out to the local Starbucks for coffee. On Fridays I try and hit the cigar or bait shop and go shoot the shit with them.Have Chargebacks? Send me a message.

I get up in the morning and take my girl to work 2 miles away, stop somewhere and get a healthy breakfast and a cup of coffee and go home and work. When I pick her up, we usually go visit friend, stop at a local watering hole or just get out. I enjoy this step up a lot!Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

After 16 years of working from home i got fed up. Moved into a nice big office in the best part of town over a year ago.
I rent it with 13 other entrepreneurs for asmall fee to keep squatters out. Love it, never going back to work from home.

Interesting nobody mentioned the most important thing - you (maybe exceptions, but definitely absolute majority) are way more productive working in office. So much more that you can justify office rent cost and transportation.
Try it and you will see. Plus you would have more comfortable life as home would be the space were you rest only.

I used to be in an office from 1998 to 2006.
Then I built an office under my home that I worked in from the end of 2006 to 2008.
Then I moved to my "McMansion" in Vegas.
I now have a "casita" right by my pool and spa in the backyard.
It's a total stand-alone building with a kitchen and bathroom with shower.
So I turned that into my office.
So I get the best of both worlds.
When I go to the "Office", I simply walk out the back door, stroll down the sidewalk by my pool, toss the ball to my dog, unlock the door to the Casita and I'm there.

I prefer office. It's nice to put different clothes on, drive , change the view. I'm much more productive in my office than home.
When i was working from my home everyone thought i was doing nothing . Plus, i can skip some housework by using the office excuse

This thread is only about location where you would do the same things. So as if you would rent an office and do the same things you do from home there...

And i also work from home since forever,almost never experienced office work.I was actually studying this and concluded how it depend on your life settings,as both ways have their advantages and cons.
Working at home have following -
1.No additional financial cost
2.Saving on gas and time
3.Faster response time in case of emergencies (once i had servers going down often,was waking up in 3am by cellphone uptime warning)
While having office have following advantages:
1.Separated private and business life (at home someone can always bother you and not respecting your work)
2.Real human to human contact
3.Office banter
4.Brain can work better due change of scenery(but again depend from person to person)

The comics is quite spot on. I can compare both - used to prefer the office in the past, now I'm quite comfortable with both setups.
I guess working from home doesn't affect your productivity as much as long as you have no distractions there (meaning other people who have a hard time to respect that you actually work).

I work in an office now. Prior to this, I worked from home for over a decade. I thought it was going to be difficult to make the transition but it actually feels good to go home and have it be home rather than always being at work.Comment
