    This Mac Mini is amazing!

So I have this Mac mini on my desk at NETbilling...

I use it for all of my daily work here. It only has 4g of ram and I am amazed by the performance. I have 2 monitors connected to it. A 32" Cinema display and a 25".

I just looked and have about 60 safari tabs running, excel, word, mail, trillion, photoshop, acrobat pro and other programs and the thing purrs like i just restarted it (even though I haven't in over a month).

I am really amazed with the performance of this little $399 compact desktop that's over 3 years old.

This coupled with a 10 year old G5 that my kids use, a 3 year old Macbook pro that I use at home, 3 iPads, a 5 year old iMac, and even a 13 year old Power PC G4 400 that runs a transactions server monitor in my office, and all have never had even one issue.

Apple's quality never fails me, especially how I see so many of our Dell's etc at the office regularly having issues and having to be replaced every couple of years.

Nice man. I have had several heavy use PCs last for 5+ years with zero issues. Others go to shit after a year or two. You really roll the dice when you buy a PC.

Yeah - I am not an engineer or tech. I am just an end user and I definitely see a quality difference between Apple and the rest. Maybe there is a lot to be said for a company that makes the hardware and OS.

Apple does not make their own hardware. You get the same Intel CPU's that other systems have, you get the same cheapest bidder ram, the same Seagate/WD hdd's, the motherboard is designed by foxconn last time I checked (a major PC motherboard manufacturer). You just pay more for it.

Sure, the new "diaper genie pro" has a more custom design, but it's all outsourced to the same people who make parts for PCs. Oh, and good luck upgrading the new "diaper genie pro" once you buy it.

Same thing with those iphones and ipads and shit.. the iphone is comprised of what, 60-65% of samsung parts?

As for the mac mini... I have the 2012 model and it's slower than molasses when compared to my pc that runs OS X (hackintosh). It ran me ~$850 off the shelf and will require another $400 or so in memory and ssd upgrades before it's really worth using as a full time machine.

Funny to read how people think apple is some sort of miracle when the only thing that differs them from a pc are the trendy casings.

Well it seems they are oriented to complete noobs.PC is better and cheaper but still require some knowledge. For example,i installed linux to my brother pc and he suddenly started saying how linux sucks, and when asked why there was some issue with loading flash videos. So i fixed that, and since then everything works fine.

                          very nice

its a shame that they made them cost a lot more and less softwear as this was they would have been more popular.

the key is most schools have only pc's.

having never used a mac, means i am less likly to buy one.

I bought my first Mac shortly after the "1984" Super Bowl commercial, and I've owned lots of them over the years since then. I even owned a Dynamac (the SE30 version for those who care), a 20+ pound "portable" clone. I've also used most of the various iterations of the Windows platform, but I just prefer using a Mac. So while I'm a confirmed Mac user who's been fortunate to never have any significant problems with any of them, I usually avoid the threads where people wind up bashing one computing platform over another.

The reason is that I've also been a Jeep owner for even longer than I've been a Mac user. So these discussions kind of remind me of the flame wars that can erupt on other boards between Jeep owners and those who choose to drive the Toyota Land Cruiser, or the Nissan Patrol, the Ranger Rover, Hummer, etc.

My point is that as long as you remember that the map is not the terrain, you can choose to drive whatever will get you where you want to go. So if there are several alternative routes to get there, and multiple choices for the equipment that will all get you to your destination, then it mostly comes down to personal choice. And in that case, just do what makes you happy.

And for those who don't like to read more than a sentence or two before "ooh a bunny!" takes over, here's the short version...

Probably because the Mac is Linux based, a big problem Linux end users have always been to get all the hardware to work well and installing new software.
Apple fixed that by building the machines, writing the drivers and creating the app store.

Interesting, so Jeep is sort of "Apple" in the world of that kind of vehicles?
Or is it just Jeep Wrangler (as this one is definitely has own style), but not ALL Jeep models, such as grand cherokee which is not that exceptional.

Price/quality thing. Not worth the price, that is the main thing not to like. And also the stigma of apple brainwashed sheep. If I carried mac I would know that I would look like that, not that I care, but many people do care of what others think

I am certainly no Noob. I am an end user that prefers to be productive & making money, not assembling a PC with a crappy Windows operating system. I dealt with Windows in the past and the MAC OS and hardware is superior to anything else I have used. Whether they actually make the parts or not, the configurations they have put together work beautifully with their OS and last for many many years. Not the same can be said for a PC typically.

When has a Mac Mini cost only $399? Pretty sure they've always started at $599.

I've been building my own PC's since about 1990. I remember using a 20mb hard drive that weighed as much as a boat anchor.

I still build PC's for the occasional friend or business use where a Mac won't work as well. However, my personal preference has been Mac for a few years now.

In my opinion this neverending argument comes down to this perfect trifecta.

Show me another brand that delivers these three values in one package and I will consider buying their product over Apple's. There's a chance you won't be able to at this point in time and that is why Apple is still winning.

Alternative products that are on the market right now either don't look as good or come with a crappy operating system or have inferior build quality.

The argument that Apple products still sell well because people are sheep is, in my opinion, weak. People buy their products because there is value in owning their products.

If I see one computer which is of same quality, same reliability and a little bit more aesthetic go for 40% (this is just an example, not necessary a number for this case) more I say it is overpriced and price/quality thing is not favorable for smart user.

There are simple, quantifiable objective factors (how much is my time worth and how much time can I save by not having to mess with rebooting, drivers, annoying system dialog boxes, malware, etc.) and there are individual subjective factors (how important are aesthetics to me, how important is external build quality to me,etc.) and they all matter as weighted factors when it comes to deciding whether Apple is a good fit for me or not.

There's also the placebo effect to consider ($2 energy drink vs $4 energy drink and the effects each one has on the quantifiable performance boost of an individual)

                                                                      Cliff notes:

Show me another brand that delivers these three values in one package and I will consider buying their product over Apple's. There's a chance you won't be able to at this point in time and that is why Apple is still winning.

Apple fixed that by building the machines, writing the drivers and creating the app store.

I think Macs offer far better value for money than any other commercial product on the market. YMMV.

With Mac, you have a very limited number of options. The thing about this is you pay more but still get the same hardware found in PCs.

With PC, you have a nearly unlimited number of options that can fit almost any budget; and the price of PC hardware is controlled by the consumer, and competing manufacturers.

The #1 drawback from OS X is that the OS does not, nor will it likely ever, fully support or utilize your gpu. For instance, the new diaper genie pro comes with dual amd firepro gpus, but in reality, you're only able to maximize around 80% of their base power. This is even true for my hack pro...

You also have more limited 3d options and support in general, which is why the gaming market is all but non existent for OS X (real games anyway), and any [real] games that do exist run poorly. In fact, most [real] games run better in a Parallels 9 VM than they do in native OS X.

As for me, my argument has only been on the hardware side of things. Comparing this OS vs that OS is a never ending pointless argument because each has their own strengths and weaknesses.

As for the hardware, I've said it several times, you get the same cheapest bidder hardware in Macs that you do in PCs. Open any Mac and you will see the same components found in PCs. The same WD HDD's, the same [insert cheapest bidder name here] ram, the same intel cpus, etc etc etc. The only difference you will find when comparing hardware between Macs and PCs is a much wider range of options in PCs, that's it.

The only major "improvement" you get with macs is a shiny case, and that's only if you actually like the look. I might be in the minority here but when sitting at my desk working, the last thing I am caring about is what my case looks like. I don't sit around fondling it or stroking myself while basking in its prettiness.

I have the 2.3 I7 model with 16GB of RAM attached to dual 24" LCDs and it pretty much screams all the time. I keep an annoying amount of Chrome tabs open and usually have most of the CS5 suite open at any given time. It's all pretty impressive, really.

I am just an end user and I definitely see a quality difference between Apple and the rest. Maybe there is a lot to be said for a company that makes the hardware and OS.
