In 1980 while in basic training we had a few CF-18s do a flyby of CFB Cornwallis to celebrate the 50th birthday of the base.

They came in over the main parade square at about 100ft and lit up their afterburners as they went by. Shattered windows in the hangars and left us all half-deaf for an hour.

It was great, lol.

Not sure it is the lowest; I remember one time I took my son to El Toro and got there late. We were walking past a hangar to got to the airshow and had a couple F-16's hop over so close that I threw myself over my son to protect him from the afterburners. It was pretty damned cool

It is a good one to attend...should try to make it one of these years. One of the times that I went they were letting people fly in a Link Trainer...so I did. Crashed and burned.

Behind me on the office wall is a favorite pic I shot years ago at Niagara Falls.

The British Red Arrows squadron were featured at a Toronto airshow the day before and they staged an unscheduled flyby of Niagara Falls (the pilots wanted to see the Falls from the air I heard). Damn tourists, lol.

By chance I just happened to be down by the Falls that day with my older Olympus dslr and heard the squadron roaring north along the Niagara gorge behind me towards the Falls. If you can imagine, the gorge amplified the sound of the jets, it was deafeningly loud.

I spun around and had just enough time to fire off a few frames as they went by around 100ft. - and then the cam batteries died. Fuckin' Murphy's Law.

The Arrows flew over the Falls as I had just enough time to swap out fresh batteries...they did a big sweeping turnaround and came down low over the Falls for a second pass, laying down smoke. I grabbed another 7-8 frames as they flew directly over Horseshoe Falls.

Damn...Tom Cruise owns and flys a P-51 Mustang. I just watched a video of him flying over his 30 million dollar home in his Mustang.

I have a schoolmate who's working as a pilot in St. Petersburg airlines, and loves to spend money on aircrafts. He's got 3 ones in his collection right now. As far as I know, he byes them in Canada (have no idea why, but it looks like a cheaper way for him) and then flies on then to his house in Russia.

The FBO I worked at as a kid had a contract with one of the airforce bases and from time time we would have the fighters on the tarmac. One day we were talking to the pilots and asked what they had been doing . they said low lever training. We asked how low and they walked us closer to the airplanes so we could see the saw grass sticking out of the wheel housings.
