God dammit! - How do I get my money?

Last year, I promoted a certain sponsor and got a signup almost immediately. So I promoted it very aggressively throughout the rest of the year. Unfortunately, I never got another signup again.

But the one signup I did get rebilled every month and then cancelled just $3 shy of the minimum payout ($100)

Do I:
1. Promote it aggressively again, trying to get one more signup (even though it seems the one I did get was just a fluke)

2. Go ahead and sign up for the site myself just to push it over the minimum.

3. Forget about it and focus on the ones that do sell?

4. Other

Never got another signup on how much traffic? If it's within realm of reason, promote a little more, but if it's like 5K traffic sent, then I don't know

Close your account and request payment. Investing more time, money, and energy on something that you can't sell makes little sense.

Don't do something stooopid like ask for a refund and I doubt you'd caught.

Ask for a payout - I have done it before for sponsors with high limits that I stopped promoting - They are normally OK...

I hadn't thought of that option, but thanks. As soon as your mother's finished with it, I'll consider your suggestion.

Yeah, if you're closing your account the program should pay you the balance owed upon request. Minimums were originally put in place so companies didn't have to repeatedly cut weekly tiny checks to the same affiliates time after time, not to steal sales you sent them fair & square.

I've never had a problem when closing an account, but if they still refuse to pay (I've seen a couple gripe about it on here), let us know.

for many sites its against the terms to sign up yourself. so if you do and your account gets closed, you cannot complain.

you could always ask a frend to join via your code and give them the cash.

it would also be an experiment to see if its registered or not. if he signs up under your code and you do not see the sale, then you know they are shaving.

4. Don't worry about it for now and spend your time on something actually making you decent money.

Usually if the trickle traffic doesn't convert then pushing them hard won't work well either.

I've never closed an account - Once a link goes out it stays out there until the end of time. Ironically I still make money from the first two or three sponsors I signed up for....

I'm not about to loose any sleep over anything less than $100 so I just keep the account open and hope some day I'll get a sign up. In most cases I put the payout higher because I would much rather get a $500 check than a $100 check.

I have similar story, also 97 there, although it would be second payout.
Best option - request account closure and payout. If they refuse - spill the beans.

3. Forget about it and focus on the ones that do sell?

$97 is not worth worrying about. focus on the ones where you are making more than 10x that amount every day and quit messing around with the worthless sponsors that don't convert traffic.

What is it about buying a membership with your own aff code sponsors don't like?

I mean, most sponsors I promote gladly give me free access to a site to find promotional content. So why is it bad if I sign up and get a 50% discount?

I have always got discount or benefits those places I worked, but maybe it's just different with online business.
Maybe I am just missing something.

It's a great trick to see who is honest as well. Leave a few links up, maybe 10-100 hits day. If you never make a sale again then the chances are there is some funny business going on with them. I have a few sponsors like this and after a couple years of that crap I knew to never trust them again. The honest ones with their shit together will make a sale every now and then. That will remind me they are still around.

It's funny how people claim "X amount is not worth it" and base it on their own finances not understanding that it is relative and different for everybody.

Oh you know, it's an ego and insecurity thing where they can imply they're doing well or something, and you're not because you're worried about such paltry sums of cash. I remember the last thread this subject came up there were guys saying shit like "DUUUUDE, that's just pizza money, LOL!!!"

For whatever reason this is common in adult, don't see anything like this in any mainstream boards I use. When I bill a mainstream client $100 for services rendered or products delivered - or even $40 - I expect them to pay. Not because it's the difference between paying my groceries or mortgage, but because that's how the fucking world works. For whatever reason there's a segment of people in our industry feel the need to remind everyone how well they're doing - dunno if adult by nature attracts douchebags like that, or if it's learned because that's the scene (moreso in the past).

But yeah, as I said to the original OP - it shouldn't be necessary to do nonsense like sign up yourself to hit the minimum, just request they close you account and cut your check for the balance....

write the program and ask for your money, any legit program will pay you out if you ask for it.

#1 Sure, then they better be afraid.

#2 The chance I as an affiliate will abuse the system is less than the average Joe. I don't see a reason to ban as long as I follow all rules and don't chargeback.

#3 Not sur I understand this one. As long as I have been an active affiliate, and am sending sales, I don't see why a sponsor would deny me a discounted membership. As said most even give free memberships.

But sure, #1 is probably biggest reason. For those with nothing to hide #2 and #3 shouldn't be a concern.
