Supposedly they got hacked. Something like $400 Million worth of BTC stolen over a period of time and nobody noticed what was happening.

If it was a single hacker you've got to believe they are a government backed entity. Which government, who knows. I don't think a common hacker would steal that much. It could also be that dozens if not hundreds of hackers got in and collectively did the damage.

Ya, mid-2013 these mtgox users knew mtgox was having issues, but they decided to keep their coins in mtgox exchange bcos they always posted a higher rate than any other exchanges.

Altho i do feel sad for those that lost coins/money with mtgox, i do wanna point out, they DID KNOW that mtgox was unreliable since last year

I knew this, that's why i immediately moved all my coins out of mtgox

Playing with fire then crying because you got burned?

People go on all day about how government regulation has no place in crypto currencies, then when bitten they run to the government for help?

I can envision the trial right now:

"Your honor, our ponzi coin exchanger took off with out ponzi money"

people will never accept personal responsibility for their lazy asses...this thread reminds me of the golden days of online HYIP where people got in to stupid shit like 20% per HOUR and then they cry to the government pretending they did not know it was a ponzi...

some people are self entitled assholes and will sue anybody for anything...

So you are saying they'll get their money back? I can't see it happening in this case, as I don't think they have the assets to sell.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, anyone who refused to see the writing on the wall last year when issues started arising with withdrawals deserves to have lost their funds, it was their own stupid fault they got fleeced.

Hundreds of people were screaming everyone should migrate across to another service, but hardly anybody listened because the prices on GOX were so likable compared to other exchanges. Greed feeds corruption and it appears this has been going on for many, many months unchecked, all the while MTG has posted PR after PR about how its just a 'glitch' or some such nonsense while the CEO was syphoning off millions of dollars of other peoples monies.

I thought the non-regulation and non-governmental intervention was one of the reasons so many were interested in bitcoin? Now people want to file lawsuits, using legal/governmental/regulatory procedures.

Seems ironic…

The lesson that should be learnt from this is don't trust any exchange. All the Bitcoin exchanges are dodgy and shouldn't be trusted with a penny of anyones money, I've said a few times over the past year that these exchanges are the weakest link in cryptocurrency.

Bitstamp = Slovakians with a fake registered Virtual Office in the UK
BTC-e = Russians who do their best to remain anonymous, whois privacy, no registered business address

The one question no one is asking atm is how solvent are the other exchanges, that's what I'd be worried about if I had money or coins with them.

The whole sorry mess has irony written all over it, around this time last year the rise in price of Bitcoin was partly attributed to the bank runs in Cyprus and people not trusting the banking system.

Less than a year later and oh the irony indeed

I always find it strange when someone is prepared to travel half the way around the world to "protest" aka do nothing.

Not part of that class action. Criminal charges -> MtGox kept customer deposits on their company bank account which is illegal in Japan.

These mtgox punks are trying to claim it was stolen or gliche so they don't get fucked up but ANY business can pull that same shit all day....

Tell everyone to relax all is good to maintain value, sell it off and go bankrupt.

-Nothing is real unless it is in your hand.
-Don't invest what you cant lose.
