http://www.livestrong.com/article/32...-sugars-carbs/ Rum is free from added sugar or carbs, is typically made from sugarcane or molasses, and comes in a variety of styles: white rum, amber rum, dark rum, spiced rum and aged rum. |
The problem is not the sugar in the alcohol. The problem is that alcohol raises your BP.
Raising your BP speeds up the rate the heart pumps and speeding up the rate it shoots blood through your kidneys, causing scarring. Scarring sends you on the road to kidney disease and eventual death if you don't have a heart attack or stroke first. I have high BP and am taking drastic steps to reduce weight, change diet and trying not to drink. That is hard. Weightlifting without losing weight first only adds strain to your heart because muscle weighs more than fat. My doctor at UCLA Medical Center advised me to go on a 1250 calorie a day diet and walk at least 1 hour each day while taking prescribed meds. No tricks, no games, no plans...just simple way. After living outside US for 3 months now I can tell you I believe most American food is poison. Wholefoods type stores being the exception. |

calories come from 3 sources only- fats, proteins, carbs. That's it. That's no debatable So those 64 calories come from the sugar, such is a carb. Rum is pure sugar. |

I've mentioned here I am a 30+ year serious type 1 diabetic, I know from studying this and from monitoring my own blood sugars and seeing the spikes from the sugars that come in hard liquors. In fact, those spikes can and do contribute to blood pressure issues. And that's just one thing shitty blood sugars complicates. The problem is very much the sugar in alcohol. |

I should know, I over-worry the absolute shit out of fucking TONS of stuff, and should the point ever come that my BP is way high, I'll need to change that, or die young :thumbsup So anyway yeah, of course some pills are medically necessary, but if I'm taking heart pills because eg I'm a bloated 350 slob, my lack of personal responsibility has led to me being grossly overweight, and thus having to take heart pills and whatever else fat fucks need to stave off death. Whining about how I eat too much because blahblahblah or how I worry too much because that's just the way I am, and not doing anything about it = avoiding my responsibilities :2 cents: |

Yes, beer has different sugars, but most all alcohols are sugars to varying degrees. Quote:
Those calories are probably too few to register as a % of total diet/carbs, thus the 0 carbs but they are there. I'd bet if the scale were more refined they would show up on the google carb search. But again, all calories can only come from protein, fat or carbs. those 64 cals are pure sugar. |

They are empty calories, but a Rum and diet coke is zero everything else. I drink rum straight on the rocks. And I'm starting to lose weight again. |

So for me, alcohol = sugars = carbs = required insulin. That's what's been beat into my brain anyway! :1orglaugh |

there are no "empty" calories - when you take in more calories than you burn, you gain weight. and vice versa. end of story
it's just that carbs as energy source are stored by the body in fat cells when you dont need the energy right away - opposed to fat (as weird as it sounds) thats why low carb diets work when you dont work out |
My BP went up about 3 years ago. was like 156/110 or something. I started shortly there after watching what I eat and exercising with a pretty good diet. I lost 38 pounds. My BP now seems to be at an average of 117/77 I do still take 1/2 pill a day but see the doc in 2 weeks and I find out if I can come off of that.
