Mate, Romanians and Bulgarians are not only poor but also not the best to rely upon at work. I'm not saying Ukrainians are way better, but it doesn't mean ALL of them just will run out to the EU just like that.
Saying the EU doesn't need Ukrainians is not correct, I'm sure many Ukrainians would be happy to buy the goods that would come from the EU. In fact, in Poland things are cheaper then in Ukraine. It affects all the goods, starting from basic food up to furniture and cars.

and then look specifically at age groups and whether they live in a village or a city

Maybe I don't know what kind of situation is in Ukraine for ordinary n, that is true and what I saw in eastern eu back in 1990's was really sad and bad. But from my perspective, those times were pretty good and everything was fine here so what came later was disaster on every level(economic, moral,safety,crime,corruption and everything is tolerated by EU as long as it is making profits. Simple as that.

I lived in Ukraine for a very long time. West and East are not separated, they were doing just fine living in Ukraine until the day Yanukovitch brought in the idea of separation.
He used the language impact and people in the East became sort of scared they'd be forced to speak Ukrainian in daily life.

How stupid one can be to get into panic about it? How can you imagine that happening? Each person would be given a language controller or what?
It says about the intellectual level of the Eastern Ukraine, miners, factory workers, ex cons and felons actually - a lot of them.
Low profile people who decided to believe Yanukovich because he speaks like them, thinks like them and acts like them.

И давай не будем петь эту хрень про "нищую Россию". Неактуально нифига. У меня теща работает врачом в деревне и получает $1500...$2000 в месяц, ездит на ниссан альмера и собирается покупать квартиру в ближнем подмосковье (тебе-голодранцу наши цены на жилье даже во сне не поднять). Отец у меня получает пенсию в районе $700. Да, считаю, что это очень мало и помогаю материально, но по сравнению с нищими украинцами, это уже какие-то деньги. Так ведь, нищеброд?
З.Ы. О своих доходах не говорю, т.к. не завишу от государства и плачу всего 6% налогов, но я пользуюсь бесплатной и вполне себе качественной медициной, мой сын бесплатно учится в одном из лучших ВУЗов страны (МиФИ) и даже получает стипендию (пусть и смешную) за это.
