I'm not going to get in a pissing match as to what country does what. US cops in some places are fucking dicks and some of them should be beaten to a inch of their lives if not further for the stuff they do while taking a oath to protect and serve.

However we are talking about riots in Ukraine not the US. It's very clear that the govt has sanctioned killing of protesters in Ukraine. It's also very clear that the govt is at the verge of losing control, because no free country would condone actively shooting at protesters with lethal bullets.

See in the US we had OWS and in many areas is got a bit out of hand. The cops might of beat some people up and roughed them up, but they never pulled out M16's and sniper rifles to start killing off protestors. They blocked the protestors off and used force to shut down the protests in many areas and not a single person was killed. Many were likely beaten up and roughed up but they all lived.

There was 2 or 3 deaths during all of OWS and none were due to police action, they were deaths from with in the protest areas. One was in a tent and was found dead. None were shot to death by the police like they are in Ukraine..

In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

btw., dod you saw those "civilians" ? funny thing that they were armed.... and funny thing that they started to storm gov buildings....

you know, now UK considers David Miranda, that gay from Brazil, as terrorist... so what do you think, how the US gover. would consider guys throwing molotov cocktails and shooting at police ?

The other thing to consider - what if a big part of the Occupy movement was driven by neo-Nazis and right-wing militia groups as is the case in Kyiv? I imagine the crackdown would have been far worse and they'd lose what sympathy they had in the American media.

My point is, who knows what would happen in any given country? On this board we just have people being childish and waving their nationalist dicks around, cherry picking photos & "facts" that suit their little agenda. People like CyberSEO remind me of some right-wing Americans I know, they love to flood any discussion with selective information confirming that the good ol USA is the chosen land and anything that questions this is like water off a duck's back. They're just incapable of absorbing that possibility. Though in part he's just trolling.

The world is complicated, people are complicated, I just hope this latest truce can move forward and the situation stabilizes.

These things happen. It's not the first time, and it won't be the last. Best to not worry about it.

Yeah, the Polish quote wasn't a rumor - he was just saying what everyone expected.

It was a given the government needed to bring in the army, Berkut & co wasn't up to the task. Really in my mind the main options were either the Ukrainian troops swoop down and end things - they aren't some podunk half-assed force like we see in some 3rd world places, it's a real army - with a big loss of civilian life. Or.... some sympathetic elements of the army refuse and we get a very dangerous situation where civil war becomes a possibility. And then maybe Russia thinks about getting involved. I'm not really sure how cohesive Ukraine's army is far as regional loyalties go, so didn't know if the second was really likely, who knows. Either way a lot more people die.

So I was amazed to see they reached a settlement today. It's not often you see both sides stand down, they both realized they had everything to lose going forward but that doesn't always stop people when events get momentum. In a way I compare it to last year when it seemed certain the USA was going to attack Syria (man that would have been stupid), yet at the last minute Obama has a moment of sanity and backs off.
