...has worked out great. He has bonded well with me and my other dog. He was well trained and obeys instantly. The Bears are in hibernation so they have not been around my AO for him to meet up with...so I do not know yet how he will deal with a bear. I hope the lions have permanently left my AO. No dog can deal with a lion.

The idea with Karelians is that they can be fearless and aggressive even towards large animals - so that many bears will be held at bay not wanting to tangle with this crazy dog barking & and acting like a maniac. If the bear is a mean bear and wants to do some damage, then yup, he won't have a problem with the dog. But most of them time they'll back off. Supposedly.
I knew a guy who got one once, but he didn't socialize or control it properly, I think they had to find it another home. They are truly working dogs who need a "job" to do.*********

i guess my concern would be that 'yourself', plus 2 dogs, one overly aggressive, is going to guarantee a fight, as the bear won't see itself as being able to safely 'move away'The idea with Karelians is that they can be fearless and aggressive even towards large animals - so that many bears will be held at bay not wanting to tangle with this crazy dog barking & and acting like a maniac.
