Mandatory verifying the WHOIS contact information

As of January 1, 2014, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has mandated that all ICANN accredited
registrars begin verifying the WHOIS contact information for all new domain registrations and Registrant contact modifications.

Please click the link below to verify the Registrant email address. You have until 03/07/2014 to verify this email address.
After this date, the domain(s) associated with this Registrant contact will be suspended until the email address is verified.

Click here to verify your email address

this is new for me .,and Found this in SPAM
make sure contact email in whois is valid.

Have not got one of those emails yet but have read about the rule change. Probably a good idea for all to make sure your domain registrar is whitelisted in your mail server or client.

This is happening to NAME.COM domains that have a sponsoring registrar of ENOM.

I've had this email and I first checked with NAME.COM support to check it was legit before I clicked on it.

I use Netsol and they periodically include (quarterly?) a verification form in their login process.

                    It is legit:

As of January 15, 2014, ICANN has instituted a new policy for all domain names. This policy will affect the following:

The purchase of new domain names
The transfer of a domain from another registrar to NatNames
Any changes made to an existing domain name that affects the First Name, Last Name, or email address of any contact.
A WHOIS Data Confirmation email from ICANN that bounces due to an incorrect email address
Please be aware that any time you purchase, transfer, or edit a domain you will now be required to confirm your intentions. Within 24 hours of a domain purchase, transfer request, or edit to contact information as referenced above, a confirmation email will be sent to you. You must click the link in this email and confirm your intentions on the web page that follows.

FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE CONFIRMATION PROCESS WITHIN 15 DAYS OF ANY PURCHASE, TRANSFER, OR CHANGE TO CONTACT INFORMATION WILL RESULT IN YOUR DOMAIN BEING TAKEN OFFLINE BY ICANN. IN ADDITION, ON THE OCCASION THAT ICANN SENDS A WHOIS CONFIRMATION EMAIL, AND THAT EMAIL DOES NOT REACH YOU, THE DOMAIN WILL BE TAKEN OFFLINE BY ICANN UNTIL THE CORRECT ADDRESS HAS BEEN VERIFIED.

Important Note: In the confirmation email you receive, the link will take you to https://approve.domainadmin.com. For security purposes, do not clikck any link in any email that sends you to any other domain. Scammers abound on the internet, so please be careful.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

This verification procees is different then anything i have seen to date. People are going to lose domain names for sure.

Godaddy registers click domains, then launch, and find the ones needing verification. The good news is as soon as you verify 1 email just use same email for all the others.
