Germans did this. Similar as in Yougslavia, I am reckognizing pattern. Just watched how police officers were killed with stones while lying on the ground. What I don't understand is wtf police is doing there? They could fix this mess in a matter of few hours.

Maidan said it all, Russia is to blame, blood is on Putin.
I'm not going to go into details here, to avoid a Great Patriotic Flamewar, but this is all really a drag for the Ukrainian people because they're being jerked around by forces far far more powerful than anything they can muster. And those forces don't have their best interests at heart.
Hopefully they can defuse this latest event without escalating bloodshed, but I don't really see the political situation improving.

I know Ukrainians, they'd prefer not even be there, but the regime took it to the whole another level. If they don't stand the night, if there be more dead, tomorrow there will be worse. Only in Kiev there are 400k registered guns and rifles.
That ending was sickening - I really don't care what they say they are protesting about - all they really want is blood.

Nope, never been to Canada. I guess that there is nothing to do there except post on forums.

It's a nasty, complex situation. Plenty of videos of police brutality out there too.
It should be noted that there *is* a growing presence of far-right Ukrainian nationalists (mostly from the west side of the country) amongst the protesters, eerily reminiscent of how radicals started to co-opt the grassroots movements in Syria, Libya, even going back to Croatia where lunatic Ustashi-types helpfully killed any international sympathy for those fighting Milosevic.
Throw in a long history of Russian domination, EU & USA handwringing and lack of any constructive alternatives, totally corrupt govt (and remember the opposition was in power before Yanukovich, they were crooks too), etc, and I dunno how things don't spiral further.
I'm guessing whatever happens Russia will benefit the most (i.e. keep Ukraine solidly in their sphere), they're the only ones with power who are applying a consistent steady policy & pressure.

been rather impressive how well organized the protestor side is.. but then, when you have articles like this
Yeah, just part of the East vs West tug of war that's been going on forever. I think when Yushchenko & Tymoshenko flamed out, Putin realized he was holding all the cards and hence you get this more aggressive policy that looks like it'll be successful in pulling Ukraine away from the EU.
Funny thing though - you hear all this pro-Ukraine protester rhetoric from many Americans, yet if there were a similar movement in Washington DC (the Occupy stuff doesn't hold a candle) where the protesters actively lobbied for regime change and actively fought back (and were partly supported by far-right ultranationalists like in Ukraine) - they'd be labelled terrorists and the Nat'l Guard would come down on them like holy hell and wipe them off the streets. And many of those Americans who support a "peaceful revolution" in Ukraine would be 100% behind that crackdown. We apply our standards where convenient.

less funny, way more sad
we have elected government officials writing letters and making demands in support of the opposition, but doing so while being responsible for laws that would see those same protesters in jail for 10+ years
nice that they're so concerned finally.. now only to get them concerned about their own countries
This country needs new elections to quit the protests.
Let the people decide, see what the majority want.
They can't. Eastern Ukraine and Western Ukraine are two different nations with different traditions, history etc. For example, during WWII Western Ukrainians were fighting for Nazi and Eastern Ukrainians still remember that

Well, when you consider that Stalin starved 3 to 5 million of them the death just eight years previous to the arrival of the Germans it's little wonder that the remaining population initially welcomed Hitler's rule. Unfortunately for them the Nazi's treated them like shit too.
And if all that wasn't bad enough, after the war even more of them starved to death in the 1946 to 1947 famine.
