Buying traffic is a write-off

You can claim the money you spend on traffic on your income tax. All advertising expenses qualify as business write-offs.

Did you know?

It might be second nature (like "duh!") to some people, but others might not realize the added benefit of paid traffic. Some people say they hate paid traffic. Some people hate dogs too....... I love both :D

I love paid traffic. Reliable, steady flow and it racks up the expenses. You should see all the rewards I can claim on my visa card.

How do u write it off though, if you pay by Paypal, and it just says "Paypal" on your statement? My cpa told me you can only make deductions if it states specifically on your statement what it's for and "Paypal" could mean anything.

When I make a paypal payment for traffic, I always use the little description box to type in "Traffic/advertising payment".

That's good enough, and it will show up on the "payment sent" page that comes up right after you send the payment. I always print out that page for my records as well as the email receipt.

Make one up. Seriously... When I buy traffic from a guy out in the states, I simply ask for his mailing address and then in my accounting system I simply say purchased from <NAME>, his full mailing address, what was bought, the price and how it was paid (with any tracking codes if appropriate). That's a fully legitimate receipt even if one is not sent to you by the actual person.

I should keep track of all that. Do you need some form of documented proof to write it off. I should print out invoices when made availabe. But alot of times nothing is made available. Bank statements will those work? I am a newbie when it comes to this. Taxes fucked me good this season, I need to take advantage of these things.

Your CPA is mistaken. You don't need a receipt. You have a bank or credit card statement that shows the money left your possession, right? Many transactions are done electronically these days - sometimes all you end up with is a transaction number. That doesn't mean you can't write it off.

Well, in principle you're right.... but.... and there's always a "but" :D for many people, this is their first business venture ever. Many people are not only new to the adult industry but new to running a personal business themselves, and thus might be unaware that business write-offs extend to promotional expenses.

I bet many people have dropped hundreds of dollars for those "preferred submission" options on the major SE's and haven't claimed it on their taxes.

Try thousands upon thousands of dollars. And I sure as hell remember to claim it. If I forget anything, its to declare revenue, every single expense and its mother is accounted for

Reward points are sweet. Almost all of the flying our employees do (for business or pleasure) is paid for with reward points.

I'm planning on outfitting my entertainment center from Royal Bank and whatever I don't get from Visa, I'll redeem with the reward points from my sponsors. I love the perks of this biz

i know around here in nova scotia we have places that provide support for small business owners so they can learn what they need to know.

i'm sure there must be government programs that can assist small business owners?

Speaking of rewards points, we're the first and only Direct Adult Traffic provider to offer "Bonus Cash". You get bonus cash for every purchase you make! You can use your bonus cash to buy traffic or have it paid back to you as actual cash via PayPal, check or bank wire.

Like someone mentioned earlier, you can write off your traffic purchase as an expense! We offer the best deal on the Internet to date so join the many other webmasters who take advantage of it themselves.

Haha...use the strip club's ATM to get cash for dancer tips. Especially the ones here in ATL will give you a receipt with a business sounding name other than the strip club name. This keeps wifey out of your business and gives you a receipt that doesn't say "The Booty Shack" on it that you can say was a business expense.

Market research, and the receipt is via your credit card. Tell the bouncer you want to charge your purchases to your visa (which they will absolutely love by the way so they can rack up your bill). If your in the porn business, part of your job is to determine what turns on men. Well, what a better place than a strip club.

Not that I've used this idea or anything before, but my accountant has creative expense accounts :-)

Wired Guy, I didn't know Ice Cold Cash was a "Direct Adult Traffic Provider". When did JoeE become a traffic provider?

My statement addressed the other traffic players exclusively.

Thanks for your input by the way, shows initiative.

Wired guy nailed it...... claim market research expenses. In fact, you can also claim it under "Model recruitment" if you talk to at least one dancer about modeling. Doesn't matter if she says yes or no.

AND.... if you also take any kind of business associate along for the show, you can claim anything spent on them as well... like beer, food etc. under business meetings. ha ha...... write-offs are fun.

Pennyless --- come spam my thread some more, I like it. If you were smart though, you would have contacted me about me referring you some new clients. Oh well.
