if now please anyone could send a memo to all lions living in the wild in Africa that giraffes are off limit from now on

arock10 02-10-2014 01:42 PM

It was killed to prevent inbreeding but if they turned down several half a million dollar offers I'm sure it was for a good fucking reason

Its not like it was a normal day at the zoo and they walked into the enclosure and killed and butchered the animal right then and there. This is shitty, sensationalist journalism and nothing more.

Thank you.

That is the reason why i call it sick. I would never be able to find a person that would voluntarily take a kid to watch the butchery. Normal people use toads for that at it's max.

It doesnt look offensive to you I believe, ah, you'd also enjoy that. Same as watching
a giraffe's body being butchered in front of the little children.

I don't believe you're questioning the level of disgusting inadequately exposed procedure being held in front of very young public. These people may end up raising fairly sick kids also.

Why is it acceptable to you to experiment on toads but not other animals? Toads are a very important part of the natural ecosystem and it always disappoints me when I see little kids smashing them for no reason.

It is not for me IMHO, but that is somewhat that is considered acceptable publicly, it's been practicing for years in schools, but i also find it crazy. Smashing toads - it's internal violence in men, right, but why take that to another level?

How exactly do you think we, as humans, have gained the knowledge that we now have about the human body and also the animal kingdom? Do you think scientists just randomly came up with theories and tested them only when absolutely necessary (i.e. when someone is about to die?)

Insulin is a pretty good example. For many years it came from pig livers. The pig would need to die in order to extract the insulin. Today most of it seems to come from plants. How many diabetics do you know?

Kolargol 02-10-2014 03:50 PM

So insulin comes from plants now...

Just out of curiosity,... where do you think the vials of insulin come from? Prisoners? Or any commonly used hormone for that matter...

bns666 02-10-2014 04:21 PM

this is really an exception (i do eat pork, beef, chicken, deer, etc).

just imagine native african animal born in colder part of the planet (not his GENETICAL natural environment) not by his choice, completely unused to the environment, limited by space where he could move compared to the space he needs, however healthy and 18 months old, gets killed because of bad GENES?!

http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/dam/ass...al-gallery.jpg

Bourke 02-10-2014 04:54 PM

ok, so its time to set a few more things straight. There was ONE financial offer made, and the offer was for the giraffe to stay where it was. Which was unacceptable. Clearly the zoo is more interested in a viable breeding program than in profit. There was ONE offer to take the giraffe, from a zoo in Yorkshire. A zoo which is not part of the overarching body that governs zoos with proper, humane, scientific breeding programs. ie, a zoo which does not meet the requirements for entry into a group that governs zoos. Therefore, not an acceptable place to send the giraffe.
AGAIN, the animal was not "butchered in public", an autopsy was performed. This was deemed a good opportunity to educate the public, both into giraffes and into the science behind these programs. The animal was then butchered behind closed doors and the meat given to other animals just like they are regularly given cow or sheep meat. Autopsies like this provide invaluable information to the ecological efforts to save the more endangered sub species. Killing this one animal has potentially helped the programs in Africa save the last of the Rothschilds Giraffe, which is on the brink of extinction.
Do the outraged people in this thread actually READ, or just skim the headlines and feel the outrage they're told to? Read more than one source, read between the lines.

bns666 02-10-2014 05:01 PM

somebody is always wrong on the internet, but i really felt sorry about killing this animal.

Wellness Cash 02-10-2014 05:37 PM

Gotta say though, that giraffe meat looked lean as fuck, bet that would taste awesome grilled up and thrown in-between a bun with some lettuce, tomato and condiments.

Bourke 02-11-2014 02:41 AM

yes beerptrol, I am sure the people who spent their lives studying and working in conservation efforts neglected all the layers of oversight, completely ignored all other options because they're just such a bunch of blood thirsty bastards... right? They only did what, 8 fucking years of vet school? Do you reckon they did that because they just hate animals so much? And thats why they work for a conservation breeding program, for the big bucks and the chance to occasional murder an animal...
it couldnt at all be that you read one half arsed article, bought into the manufactured outrage, and dont actually know anything about anything?

Markul 02-11-2014 03:08 AM

I think this thread illustrates the stupidity that are rampant in a modern world where we can all easily communicate. It also illustrates a lot of the things that are wrong with modern media today and how people trust most that's being said by an "official news outlet".

Everyone that knows just a little bit about how things actually works in this world, knows never to take what's being said by the media at face value. But people still watch Fox News even thought most people that has just a wee bit of intellect knows they are epic at twisting things and not being truthful. I can get more truth from the fucking gospel channel.

And the fact that British people listen to a dimwit of a reporter (or at least I imagine they do) like this guy just eludes me:

If you really think the killing of this animal was a horrible thing that deserves all this attention, I hope you are a vegetarian or something because if you aren't - you just went full retard.

RegUser 02-11-2014 08:29 AM

Indeed it is a horrible act of cruelty and stupidity. The poor abimal was killed for no fault of its own.

What part was cruel and I am pretty sure giraffes are killed for no fault of their own in Africa too . . . except that they are in Africa with hungry, hungry lions and they look pretty tasty.

Leave your sister alone, you look stupid comparing a human autopsy made for students with a public butchery made in front of a little children.

Sid70 02-11-2014 10:01 AM

Once again, mentally retarded adults to chop a huge animal in front of the little children. Many of them would possibly stay ill for life after the shock or become Brevicks.

To complain about one niche case of killing an animal to protect others is ludicrous, especially since there are hundreds of millions of battery hens currently kept in the worst conditions possible for the purposes of farming their eggs.

It always amazes me how people get so angry about the death of one animal, yet always seem to be ones who consume eggs and milk.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather be shot in the head instantly rather than have my nipples pumped daily or my ability to move while I shit eggs reduced to zero.

A little perspective here, people.

you would like perspective?

other zoos offered to house the animal.

a private donor offered 500k euros in order for it to be saved.

perspective, indeed.

Kids who grow up on farms see this all the time. I'm of the opinion that its socially irresponsible to shelter kids from the truth that their chicken nugget, cheeseburger or bacon is more than an ambiguous piece of meat that comes neatly wrapped in a cellophane and Styrofoam package. Perhaps it will make them appreciate where there sustenance comes from.

I also think we are at a point where zoos have outlived their purpose.

He feels bad about something terrible that he did at an earlier point in life and is now trying to redeem himself with irrational rants protecting the helpless.

As Devin mentioned, any kid that grew up on a farm/in the country learns about life and death very early on.
