Talk about a bonehead move!

Doesn't say why the car crashed. Doesn't say why the fireman was arrested. Pretty worthless video, lol.

They said he was arrested because the CHP officer told him to move his engine, he refused.

Basically a parking ticket

Damn I wish that would of happen to me while on the job, but in Va it wouldn't of because of the respect we all had for one another.. If it did happen say to me I would of been sitting pretty with more of the cities money then they had already paid me to be a firefighter! LOL That was just stupid, that cop should of wrote the firefighter up and went through the proper channels unless that firefighter was causing harm or breaking a law that would of caused harm or death.

It was like a pissing contest I'm sure. He was there for a reason and some jack off CHP officer is arresting him for parking where he didn't want him?

The CHP officer obviously was mistaken and thinking he was still living in Mexico where they can get away with that type of shit.

Was he unnecessarily blocking traffic and refused to move?

That's the only thing I can think of.

Honestly, even if that was the case, the injured persons in the accident still take priority.

The officer works for highway patrol, why didn't he do his job and redirect the traffic instead of arresting the firefighter?

That firefighter is lucky this didn't happen with LAPD, he'd have simply been gunned down.

He was parked in the #1 lane

Wednesday, Orange County Fire Authority Captain Steve Concialdi defended their vehicle blocking the accident scene.
He spoke with CBS2′s Stacey Butler at CHP headquarters in San Juan Capistrano.
?The protocol for the fire department is to protect the scene. When we arrive on these traffic accidents cars are going at a high rate of speed especially at night. We will block lanes to protect our firefighters and our paramedics,? Concialdi said.
Concialdi said he believed Gregoire acted appropriately .
?More firefighters and police officers are hurt on the freeway or on the side of a major road than in a gun battle or in a fire,? Concialdi said.

IF that FF was there on the scene with injuries or risk of fire or risk of bio spill then he is in charge of the scene until it is contained.

At least in any normal state in the US.

LOL, I live in Chula Vista and that is big news around here. Everyone is talking about and pissed off at the CHP. When I saw the video I was amazed that was happening. I can't wait till some news channel gets to interview the CHP officer.

Here is the article about it on the local news site: http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/...uffed-freeway/

I wonder if you all would be bitching so much if you were one of the cars stuck behind the fire truck...

I completely disagree.

If someone was driving such that they run into the engine parked where it was, then clearly the engine protected the emergency responders.

That's the intent of parking there.

Im, sorry but if someones life is in danger the firefighters job is to save them. Its the CHP's job to make sure nobody crashes into that truck parked in the freeway. If it was one of the cops family im sure it would not have told him to move the truck or im going to arrest you.

It's dangerous on the freeway for firemen, cops and freeway workers.
They take precautions to protect themselves by blocking the traffic.

good points.

Moreover, arresting the guy and putting him in handcuffs only adds to the complexity of the situation. It doesn't solve anything, it certainly doesn't move the engine the chp fuckwad was so concerned about.

yes, I agree with that about the truck protecting it's crew but a policeman's role is to prevent accidents as well and asking him to move the fire truck if it's in a dangerous position is within his remit. Anyway, looking at that second report posted here, this wasn't the case anyway and the policeman looks to have some difficult questions to answer.

So you would just say "oh, no problem, I can spent the next twenty minutes at a stand still while I wait for them to move a fire truck.

Great, they arrive on the scene and protect themselves by blocking traffic. Once the situation is secure, there is no danger, and people are being properly treated, it's time to move the emergency vehicles and work on getting traffic moving again.

The first responders were still treating the injured when the chp dipshit arrested the fire fighter.

Gregoire?s truck was positioned to protect the three remaining firefighters, the three medics, the ambulance and people about to be loaded into it and since pulling out would put them at risk, the truck stayed.

this went out over the radio:

?I did not move our engine so it?s still in the initial spot, and we?re just continuing with patient care.?

?This is ridiculous. We?re in the middle of patient care with patients on the [freeway] and we?re trying to protect our scene ? and they?re putting him in handcuffs at this time and walking him away.?

the firemen have a mandate to park like that. IT is to protect the accident scene.
this happened before and the officer ended up being sued and more.

Power hungry people with badges.
