National championship - teams from one country competes and winner is champion of that country.

World championship - national teams of different countries compete and winner is champion of the world.

Its not the same. In order to declare world champion there must be a championship organized. If there is no world championship than there is no world champion.

Lets take another example, basketball. And there is world championship. Current world champions are team USA and NOT Miami Heat. Miami heat is champion of USA.

Just like Manchester United is not world champion of soccer. It is champion of England.

And speaking about soccer - does winner of MLS declare itself as world champion as well? Or is it only MLB, NFL, NBA? :1orglaugh
